Before trying the restaurant, we ordered from Luigia a couple times. Pizzas are good, and the ratio quality/prize is also attractive. Last Saturday we tried the restaurant for the first time. It was very busy, and we were welcomed by nice service. We arrived at 8:30 and received our appetisers in a relatively short time. After that, we realised that we were not the only table waiting. The wait was 1.15 hours long. We received the mains at 10:15 pm. It was clear that the kitchen and pizzeria had some coordination issues and so we tried to be compassionate. Also, this was not just our problem, as many customers were facing delays. We were surprised to see though that some people who arrived after us got their food before us. Like them, we had a mix of pizzas and pastas. Waiters tried to make up for the wait bringing some fried appetisers - and we appreciated their effort. My calamarata was good, and the pizza with wüstel too. The carbonara was rather disappointing, as the sauce was very watery - not sure if not enough egg yolk. As an Italian, to me that carbonara was not a dish I would want to take again there. However, food was on the good side. When asked about our satisfaction, we explained the wait (which we can understand) but also said that we couldn’t understand in which order they served food. The answer was a bit contradictory : first, the waiter told us that they go in order, then, they told us that our pasta took longer and had a longer cooking time than that of the table next to us. Still, when the table next by finished their food, we still haven’t received our mains. The waiter also told us that they prioritise big tables with pizzas. We understood they were short staffed (as they said), and definitely understand that everybody can have a bad night. However, when the waiter told us that it was Saturday, I was thinking that precisely because it is Saturday that the system should work and you should have an extra pair of hands to jump up on emergency. Pizzas were made non stop, so the fact that we had a “mixed” order of pizza and pastas didn’t help. We will for sure continue to order take away pizza, but won’t go back on a weekend, as we have no guarantee that this won’t...
Read moreWorst service I've experienced in Switzerland and probably one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had....
I love truffles and used to eat them regularly, but in living in Indonesia for past couple of years it's not easy to get fresh ones. As they're in season I was excited to order them with my pasta, even though it was an additional 15 francs. What came wasn't fresh, the aroma smelt like off fish, they were tough and leathery and had zero flavour. Zero, none. I informed the staff who were helpful, then the chef sent back the whole truffle for me to see to demonstrate its freshness I guess? This seemed utterly irrelevant as there was zero flavour and I'd already asked them to remove them. The waitress then tried to affirm that I was just wrong as opposed to just removing them as I'd asked.
It seems the chef doesn't have a pallet. Not only was the kitchen unable to discern a flavourless truffle from a good one, they completely over salted our food, both dishes were over seasoned to the point of being unpleasant.
I took over 15 minutes to bring the replacement (cacio e Pepe). This was longer than the first dish. My girlfriend had in this time had finished her pasta. When I threatened to leave and pay for only one pasta my dish came immediately, perhaps the chef's, whom I watched with no tickets joking around in the kitchen, were trying to teach me a lesson? Who knows but it's baffling why the second dish would take so much longer than the first and the kitchen wasn't busy?
To make the whole experience really terrible, the restaurant tried to charge me for the truffle, the flavourless bland fungus that I hadn't even eaten!!? Honestly, this is basic service stuff.
Some advice: gett better truffle suppliers get better chefs (one with taste buds would help) train your staff better
Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because I'd ordered takeaway and really enjoyed their pizza and their bolognaise. But in the restaurant, terrible experience. One of the worst dining...
Read moreEmbarrassing experience, you can see that they do not care at all about the customers. I wish I would have taken a picture cause it is sounds SO ridiculous it is hard to believe.
In general took them ages to take the order, bring the drinks, the food etc. They even brought the water without glasses. It is not correct but it is understandable since the restaurant was full.
The main issue was the following and it hard to believe:
We asked the waitress if it was possible to share a pizza between 2 ppl (one pizza, half one flavor and half another flavor). We asked twice if this was possible and made sure she understood the concept. She said yes, so she proceeded with the order.
45mins later they bring the order with 2 exact same pizzas that are both half one flavor and half the other flavor. HELLO? If we wanted that then we would order two separate normal pizzas !!! We communicated this issue to the waiter and a man arrived in a grumpy attitude, not even asking what happened, just speaking in a loud voice saying that they there was nothing they could do to fix this. We insisted that NOBODY informed us that it was not possible to order ONE pizza half and half and he just replied: “We cannot do anything about that” and just left it on the table.
The dessert was ordered at the same time as the main courses to get it on time, but it also took them 40mins after we finished the main course. We had to wait 40MINS for the dessert 🤯🤯🤯
Cherry on top, they obviously charged us for THEIR mistake and we had to pay the extra pizza that nobody ordered. You can see that they overall do not even care. The LEAST they could do is say sorry, take back the pizza and remove it from the bill but no, no gesture was made from their side.
Luigia was one of my favorite restaurants. I have been a client since 2016 in all the restaurants around Switzerland: Fribourg, Geneva and Lausanne while I was studying. It was my third time at Luigia Zurich. Worst experience...
