MR. BROWN COFFEE DONUT Shop — Restaurant in Da'an District

An ok place to spend some time reading or working. Some items are good, some overly sweet and some nearly inedible to me. Coffee is good, so is the ice cream and some of the meals. Once one knows what's good to order it's a valid alternative to other similar venues. Hygiene is good, service fast and staff runs regularly around to clean the place. With that said, I had two bad experiences. One is a dirty mug on one occasion and the second is the regular oily, greasy film of whatever substance that that forms on top of the water in the paper glasses we use for the free water. That's visible under some light conditions and looks really unhealthy so I stopped drinking the water from the plastic container and the paper glasses. I knew Mr. Brown only due to the nasty canned coffee. As such, I was surprised to find this cafe restaurant. I ordered the boneless chicken, which was too tough and not at all tasty. Those I dined with agreed that the food was not so good. Surprisingly they also serve beer!! I tried it and it was not great. Definitely not five star quality of products, but the service was great, there is a great deal of selection, and the location is convenient. I stayed and discussed with my colleagues for a few hours. This kind of long term stay opportunity explains why the food prices are higher than expected. Overall, service and convenience compensate for poor food quality. The 4 stars is for the coffee. I have to say, their coffee is pretty good...medium body, medium towards dark roast ..flavorful. I got an iced latte with oat milk. The service is nice & polite. This is a very big space, plenty of tables & seats. Not really cozy though...a little bit dark & mellow....quite...not energetic! Looks like a chain. You can comfortably sit & work here ... and it’s clean. They have snacks , breakfast, lunch & desserts. I will be back to try their food & will update my review if I have a chance.
