Unfortunately my experience in this place was not big, but enough. Today my wife gave a birth to my first child in Zhongshan hospital nearby. I’ve been staying the whole day there, and was asked to grab something outside. This place was the first cozy looking Tapas restaurant I see on my way to Taipei 101 tonight... and as soon as I was ready to order some tapas here, the waitress informed me that minimum alcohol drinking charge is 1000 NTD. I have tried to ask for tapas only, but was refused by these foreign gentleman there since you should pay 1000 min for drinks only! But what if I came for Tapas? It’s really very often when I can meet so disrespectful attitude in Taiwan. And it’s shame that it’s during New Year eve and this great today. I would suggest to avoid visiting place with so much disrespect to ethics and human attitude from people working inside and review rule of spending at drinks for people who simply don’t want or don’t drink, and coming to Tapas bar...

Walked in randomly in the afternoon when no other bars are open. Olé is one of the rare bars that is open very early - like before dinner time. The owner, Alain (forgive me if I spelled the name incorrectly), is very knowledgeable about rum. In fact, everything here is rum. This place probably has the best rum collection in Taipei. Alain is very knowledgeable and gave me great recommendations and taught me how to enjoy a high quality rum. Not only are the rums amazing, the cocktails are too - we got espresso martini and it’s one of the best I’ve had so far. This is a little gem of a restaurant / bar tucked away in a little alley off Anhe Road. A friend of mine brought me here the first time telling me that it was his favorite watering hole in Taipei. I now understand why. Ole is great because it embodies everything that I like about Taipei. The owners care about everything - the drinks, the food, how you are doing. Both times I went there I met Alain and his wife. They treat you like an old friend and you end up wanting to go back again and again.

If you want a neighborhoold bar with a unique international flair, go to Ole and look for Alain or his wife. I guarentee you'll be back again. I've only gone for drinks but after seeing their Tapas menu will be going...
