Corner Hostel & Café — Restaurant in Datong District

I left before the end of my reservation as it was a real nightmare for me. My health deteriorated significantly as I could not rest over the days and breathing thick moldy air. The staff seems a bit nonchalant and tired. Don't trust the reviews. I suspect a lot of 5 stars reviews are bought to boost the average. I think this hostel should be closed until they make renovations in order to fix the multiple ventilation issues and mold issue. Making money while damaging the health of ignorant clients for me is criminal.

Really moldy especially in the bathrooms. You can see the mold in corridors pipes and also on the bedroom ceiling. There is no ventilation system at all. Rooms are extremely noisy because of the big street intersection with scooters and of course, simple windows. The place is quite filthy. The stairs, the toilets and many other things are disgusting. The cleaning is extremely amateur and slow. They open all windows during the cleaning process that takes easily 3 hours and during that time everybody is freezing. They don't really use professional equipment. Cheap tiny vaccuums. The curtain for all cabins on the floor level allow anyone to see through on the top because of bad design. I never had a single night of good sleep there because of the constant noise and too hard mattress. I constantly woke up by night. In the morning the air is really thick.

Stayed here for three nights. This is overall a great place. The rooms and washrooms are clean. There is also a common area (for hostel guests only) where you can chill out while looking out at the intersection nearby.

Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Checking in and out was a breeze.

I tried the cafe downstairs twice for breakfast’, but the fare is limited in terms of food. The mocha, cheesecake and tiramisu were all stellar, though.

As this is a short walk from Yuanshan MRT, it’s in a great place for access to the entire city. There is also a UBike stand right outside.

With the very reasonable prices I stayed at, I would certainly come here again if I wanted to...

Came over earlier (on a hot & humid day) and the ice tea was absolutely delicious! Very cozy and this joint exudes warm homely vibes. Will be staying for a couple of days in November 2024.

UPDATE: 25 May 2024. Came over again and tried the 非州国宝茶 & the 香蕉蛋糕...simply awesome, albeit, a little pricey at NT$100 each. No complaints, quality is remembered, long after the price is forgotten. Staff was friendly. (黄小姐).
