Mala Hot Pot — Restaurant in Datong District

This is one of my usual mala hotpot go-to whenever I'm in town. It's a buffet style, with free flow meats and ice cream (Häagen-Dazs, Movenpick), dessert and alcohol bar. There are three sets to choose from, the difference being the types of meats for ordering (regular US beef, wagyu beef etc). This branch is across Zhongshan station and along the main road, so it's easy to locate. The mala soup base is spicy and not too salty. The collagen soup base is not as rich and thick, so I'll give it a miss next time. The US chuck eye roll and NZ lamb were fresh and good. Recommend to give the pork a miss. One bummer is that they stopped serving small flower crabs under the seafood menu. The dinner price is about NTD 700-800 (for the cheapest set), plus another cleaning fee of NTD 80 per pax. There's a time limit of 2 hours as well. The servers will collect payment from you at your table, and remind you of the balance time too. Was there first time, as usual need to Q we were there about 7pm plus then was told come back at 930pm. To our surprised, after 9.15pm we reached there, there was no more customers and many empty tables. I think they reserved for group of peoples instead. We ordered their lowest fare TWD798 because we not eating beef. When 2019 we were at Ximending branch (before COVID), there was a huge fridge with lots of food for us to pick. Nowadays, no more already. We ordered prawns (very pathetic so small and only 2 pcs per set). I understand this is to avoid food wastage. Different price range the prawns size is different. One has got to try this hotpot place if u were to visit Taiwan. 1 pax less than 40$ for the most basic menu. But I think it's already so good. Meat quality was wonderful. And u can order as much sweet fresh oysters, clams, fish, prawns, mussels, and crabs as u want. Plus! U've free flow alcohol (wines and beer), fruit juices, soft drinks, tea (twg and specially arranged teas), movenpick and haagen danz ice creams, and sauces! I think it has so much to offer especially if u have a huge appetite! I'd always come back here whenever I'm in Taiwan! Service is abit slow.
