清珍早點 — Restaurant in Jiaoxi Township

We visited this Taiwanese breakfast place on the final day of my Jiao Xi trip.

The menu is in Chinese, which might pose a challenge for non-native speakers, but the tempting array of food displayed in glass cabinets makes it easy enough to point out your choices to the staff.

Everything is served on a tray, and the prices are very reasonable. 👍 The Food 🌮🥟 Deciding what to order was difficult as everything on offer looked equally delicious. The shop boasts a wide variety of bao pastries and steamed buns. We sampled several of these, and the dumplings wrapped in a thin layer of dough were particular favourites.

They also sell steamed buns in baskets, as well as sweet and savoury pastries. The salty soy milk & soy milk with egg were stand-out dishes to me. The heat of the soy milk cooks the egg, creating a simple, nutritious, and light breakfast.

I especially enjoyed the savoury buns pan-fried filled with chives or spring onions and eggs. The seasoning is subtle, allowing the natural flavours of the ingredients to shine through.

Ambience ⛰️ The shop is clean, spacious, and run by elderly people, giving it a warm, family-run atmosphere. The whole place has a nostalgic, community feel.

Absolute waste of calories. Our tour guide dropped us off here and we were hopeful—it was crowded, so we assumed it’d be good. Big mistake. The food was soggy, especially the 洋葱饼 (scallion pancake), which was a total letdown. Even the random breakfast stalls next door and across the street were way better.
