加園壽司 — Restaurant in Keelung

After having seafood donburi in Hokkaido, I’ve been craving it ever since, so we decided to check out Jiayuan Sushi (加園壽司) at Keelung Ren’ai Market during a recent trip.

We all ordered the Salmon Don, and it was fantastic. The salmon was fresh, thickly sliced, and had just the right amount of fat, making each bite incredibly smooth and flavorful. The rice portion was slightly small, but for 420 NTD per bowl, it’s a really good deal for the quality.

As for the service, it was a bit rushed and not very warm, but definitely not as bad as some reviews make it seem. The stall was busy, so we understood that they were probably just trying to keep things moving. We didn’t mind the wait too much, but a little more friendliness wouldn’t hurt!

The shop is located on the 2nd floor of Ren’ai Market, at Stall A34. If you’re in Keelung and craving a delicious salmon don, the food is great, just manage your expectations...

At first sight you'd pass by the RenAi market - as just another fish, meat and vegetable market on the outside, on your way to the nearby famous open air Miaoko night market, where scooters still are allowed to pollute the air during the daytime.

So on a rainy or hot day: do go up to the second floor market. Take the escalator up and turn left: you'll be surprised by the Jia Yuan Japan counter restaurant surrounded by a very local market atmosphere. Enjoy the fresh seafood and air...
