I can recommend this place for the view from the balcony, but not necessarily for the service, which was initially brusque. If you do get a balcony seat (you may not be given a choice of which seat), you will enjoy a commanding view over the hills, as well as being able to look down over one of the main lantern-lit staircases used by tourists. We enjoyed the various styles of tea served here, all of which were served in teapots, and contained enough for 2 to 2 and a half cups. Food and drinks are not cheap, but this is a prime tourist spot and the location is key. Inside is fairly typical, but there are two tables at the back of the restaurant that overlook the (small) main intersection between several streets. At night this has hundreds of lanterns and is a popular spot for anyone visiting the town. Get a seat here to look over the mayhem that is thousands of people trying to thread their way up and down a narrow staircase, smartphones held aloft, while being shouted instructions from tour guides in 3-4 different languages. I mentioned the service earlier...the business-like feel (the opposite of warm or cosy) is perhaps understandable considering that during my brief visit multiple tour groups entered, ate, and left the restaurant in a short space of time, so staff had to be incredibly efficient in managing the restaurant. Toilets are available, and although cramped, were quite...

Service was good and staff were patient in recommending dishes. Food was really nice at this price point (pretty affordable), especially the side dishes that came with the set lunch. Was able to catch a scenic view from the indoor table by the window - they also have an open air dining area at the balcony for those who prefer fresh air over aircon. Do note that the spend per person...

There's minimum order of drinks per person beyond the standard lunch which is understandable. It's the way in which we were told off by the lady who is unwilling to serve. It's really a spoiler to our trip to jiufen. We left right after because it's also so packed with people everywhere and motorcycles...

I went to a Jiufen restaurant in an old Taiwanese style house. I was delicious simple traditional Taiwanese food. Tenshin's dough was chewy. You can see the lantern night view that appears in Spirited Away.
