With parents hailing from a Military Dependents' Village, any restaurant that totes the name homemade cooking with a twang of village flair, you can be sure it will be intensely scrutinized by the ma and pa. We'd heard about this place from a friend and on a lazy weekday night, we decided to place an order for take out. We'd called in and placed an order for a few of their more famous items on the menu with a lady that was super helpful. When we swung by to pick up the items, the waitress was amazingly thoughtful, we had to wait a bit because they had wanted to pack our mantous last minute so that it would be freshly hot and not soggy wet. The food was fantastic. The mantous were cooked just right with the right amount of chewiness. It also came with their freshly made fermented stinky tofu paste. Combined together it was a match made in heaven. We also ordered a panfried egg dish topped with a sweet soysauce dressing along with an asparagus sauteed with lily buds and a sauteed tofu, chili and veggie mix. Their oil chicken and crumbled stinky tofu mixed with crumbled chinese doughnut dish was fantastic as well. It was truly a bite of home.
This place is usually packed on the weekends so I'd advise you to either place an order for take out or to make reservations...
Read moreDelicious Authentic Taiwanese food in a simple unassuming setting. We were staying at The Sherwood Taipei Hotel and needed a break from the 12 course dinners that we had been taken to all week. The menu is only in Chinese characters and we don’t read but we were able to get by with pointing to photos on Google reviews of the place and my passable Taiwanese. We ordered a delicious beef tendon and broccoli dish, drunken steamed chicken, Kong shin tsai, winter melon soup, and steamed bread. Dinner included some free appetizers , rice and tea. Dinner for two was NT$1070. We would definitely come...
