UPDATE. We returned to Monster again this last weekend and I have to say that the pizza was still amazing, the consistency of the product is very good. From the thin crispy base to the tomato sauce base, the flavours were great. They seem to have tried to do some tidying up and the bar upstairs was open on the Friday we were there. If you want to have and amazing AND. Competitive priced pizza Monster is the place to go.
So I am going to start off with the negative, and that is not the food. The premises are extremely run down. The ground floor toilet has broken wall tiles and wall cracks everywhere. The lightfitting is broken and now hangs by some insulation tape. The door lock doesn't even lock. There were trays of rising dough left on the first dining table as you came in. Now there is an upstairs which was closed on the Tuesday we were there, and that did look a little better, but we will be going back to see at the weekend. Overall, my impression of the premises did not match up to the advertisement in the Compass magazine. The photos were taken several years ago. Now, down to the food, this was without THE best pizza I have had in Taiwan I had the Mexican chicken and double cheese. As for value again amazing a 20" pizza for 555NTD and only managed to eat half of it. Dinner the next day !!!!!! This is a reasonable restaurant serving amazing food, but with a little effort and attention to some maintenance could be a truly...
Read moreBest New York style pizza we have had in Taiwan (and Asia for that matter). Skillfully made 20" pizzas (TWD 400) that were covered by great quality (and quantity of) toppings. Baked to perfection. The crust is one of the best we have had.
If we ever lived in Taichung, would come by at least twice a month. Can order by the slice (TWD 55). Great service. Must try.
20191109: On this occasion, ordered a slice of double cheese and a single 20" pizza (half pepperoni, half jalapeno something?). Managed to finish half of the pizza, had to takeaway the rest.
Double cheese is excellent and highlights the finesse of the tomato sauce. Personally a pepperoni fan so that will always be number one but Italian sausage and double cheese are very, very close seconds. Pepperoni tastes like pepperoni (this is a rarity in Taiwan) although as of late pepperoni density seems to have significantly...
Read moreIn Taiwan, I like to consider myself a bit of a pizza connoisseur and I have ranked other pizza places however, at this moment in time, this is the blue ribbon gold medal new standards in pizza shops in Taiwan. American/NY style by the slice or the whole pie street pizza this is your spot. Made while you watch or if you’re in a hurry grab a premade slice. Can beat the deal price for quantity/quality. Small indoor eating space would be the only ding against. Looked like there is additional space upstairs but marked staff only. English menu and English speaking local staff. If you want pizza and you are in Taichung it’s a must stop, or if you are like me and need to drive an hour from Sun Moon Lake….still worth it for...
