I visited BAA Veg in Taichung last weekend, and it turned out to be such an unexpected gem. We were just passing by when we noticed it was a vegan Indian restaurant, and our curiosity got the best of us. The place was about to close, but the lovely owner still welcomed us and kindly offered to prepare something small.
Since we were already quite full, we asked for just a little bite, and he served us a curry with a bit of rice. The flavors were incredible. It’s a unique fusion of Indian and Taiwanese cuisine, yet it still preserved the authentic Indian taste. The owners, two Taiwanese and one Indian, clearly put a lot of thought and care into the menu and concept.
We ended up having a great chat with one of them and learned that the menu changes every season, which is amazing because it gives you the chance to experience a full spectrum of Indian flavors in different ways.
The interior was spotlessly clean and had a calming, zen atmosphere. The staff also spoke excellent English, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I really wish I had more time to try more of the dishes, but I’ll definitely be back.
Highly recommended for anyone curious about thoughtful, flavorful vegan food...
Read moreBeing an indian, I can say that the food will not taste like indian restaurants, which is reasonable since they need to cater for Taiwan population at large. Matar Methi Malai had less methi than we would have liked and we didnt appreciate that the chef added broccoli in it. The Andra Kofta Curry had nice Andhra taste in it, but the kofta felt very gooey from inside.
The servicing was great, the ambience, cutlery was nice and felt premium. The best taste of all items was the dahi puri, however there were only 4 gol gappa with dahi, we only wished it being more in quantity like 5 or 6. Overall, we had a nice experience and would recommend folks giving the restaurant a try.
By the way, the restaurant owner/staff are reachable on WhatsApp and they were helping us in providing required information and even took order and prepared our food while we were on the way to the restaurant. Hence in terms of servicing, the hotel is...
Read moreThis place is just so, so, so good. They do actually authentic Indian food with all the right spices, but they add in a lot of Taiwanese produce. There is obviously no correct way to do food, but this my favorite way of doing fusion food.
We had the aloo matar, daal, cauliflower and broccoli fritters, and my absolute favorite, the mung bean chaat.
The mung bean chaat is basically samosa chaat, but they use silken tofu as the base garnished with mung beans and fried peanuts which is like the most Taiwanese thing ever.
Don't wanna overhype but can't...
