Went to eat on a Saturday evening (5th July 2019)...

Service: Great Made a phone call to reserve seats, was recommended to reserve dishes too. During service, waiters were attentive to our needs. Food was served promptly and in optimal order as well.

Hygiene: Perfect, nothing to complain

Food: Appetizer saved the day, the mullet roe they serve is creamy and good. Crab with rice was the dish we looked forward to, but somehow the crabs and the rice tasted like they were cooked separately and just slapped on together. Dish was bland too, like it was left in the steamer for the longest time. The rest of the dishes tasted sterile too, like they were all served from a reheat steam pouch. The free dessert (Iced yam)...please don't bother. Boba left in the cold for so long that you can't even chew apart, yam that is not cooked thoroughly. Telling me it costs NT400 but is on the house, just makes it worse.

Big historical Taiwanese restaurant downtown on Zhongyi Road~ This restaurant has run for more than 60 years, renowned for its authentic Taiwanese cuisines with local feature of Tainan city. Many special but traditional courses can be found on the menu (some better be ordered ahead) that cannot be seen elsewhere. Others like appetizer (cold dishes), assorted platter, noodle, hot pot and soup are also available. Wide choice of seafood and Taiwanese snacks are provided. Among those popular courses, steamed glutinous rice is their most favored item! There are chambers and big round table upstairs, terrific for family gathering or reunion meal. Each course is large in portion and pricey, so it is better for group dining that more people can share the plate. It is not easy to find a parking place nearby, but still the restaurant is very busy and crowded during meal time. Customer should book a seat and order ahead for prompt service. The food was decent but we were very disappointed with how we felt we had been misled into over-ordering. We were a party of two and understood that there was a 800TWD min charge for a la carte menu for each person. When we were placing our orders, the waitress said we were far from meeting the minimum. We continued to order more, made sure we asked for the smallest portions based on how the photos on the menu looked. The waitress did not remind us by the time we were done ordering that it was actually way too much for two. The photos on the menu were also very different from the actual dishes as they looked much smaller in the photos. The result was that we had enough food for 6 ppl at least. They waitress told us to pack them home but we told her at the outset we couldn’t as we are tourists and there’s no way for us to reheat food.
