Du Hsiao Yueh, originally from Tainan and famous for their traditional Tainan noodles (Danzai Noodles), is definitely a must try for their food, price and a more pleasant setting that is in stark contrast to the more local establishments elsewhere.
Danzai Noodles (TWD 50) Probably the dish most people come here for, it’s a noodle dish using egg noodles, an umami prawn broth, braised minced pork on top and a single prawn. The pork has a bit of spice and you can opt out of cilantro and garlic if you do not like them. This is definitely a must try, the serving is small enough for everyone to have one!
Deep-fried Shrimp Roll (TWD 180) It’s not stated in the English naming, but it’s actually a signature dish and I would recommend getting it as a side dish! It’s perfectly crispy with lots of prawn alongside some vegetables to fill.
Roasted Milk-fish Stomach (TWD 180) In case you’re wondering, no it’s not the internal organ but the flesh that resides around the stomach portion of the fish. The fish is very tender and is tasty enough to eat without any additional seasonings. With the plum powder, it gives it an extra kick and savouriness, reminiscent of night market street food. It also takes 10-15 minutes to grill this fish so it will come after the rest of the...
Read moreTainan din tai fung which sell local food, good quality with fresh ingredients also good services. They also provide different diet preferences now. The signature Dan Zai noodle is difficult to find vegetarian options here but now you can order veggie minced meat which made by mushroom. The yellow noodle (egg noodle) is the most classic version, but you can also try rice noodle (vermicelli). Or if you have difficulties to choose between them two, they has mix version (vermicelli+yellow noodle) for you!
Highly recommended for the appetizer- pumpkin with passion fruit sauce. Really crunchy and delicate! If you are lucky to come in the right season for Areca flower (beatle but flower), go for it! It’s really interesting veggie dish!
They have many branches. But this one was the original store. Worth a try also for...
Read moreOverall I would say our experience was not so satisfying. The way people eat here is everyone gets 1 noodle and then side dishes. Though the noodles are very cheap (50$), all side dishes are very expensive (about 160-180$) but are served as the same size as the noodle or even less.
For example the braised pork knuckle for 2 people is 4 pieces which is very small portion but costs 165$.
What I don’t understand is also there’s no option to get extra rice, because braised pork goes well with rice. Without rice it can be quite oily/fatty.
For the taste, danzai noodle and shrimp rolls are delicious. Braised pork knuckle IMO can be softer (needs more time to be cooked) or maybe it’s just my preference.
So in the end we ended up paying about 500$ and not even felt full or...
