Whenever we're holidaying in Taipei, a visit to the Ximending Walking District is always on our itinerary — not just to soak in the lively atmosphere, but also to enjoy a meal or two. This vibrant area is known for its wide variety of delicious and affordable food options.
This time, we were in the mood for steak and decided to try Tomato Steak House after reading its many positive reviews on Google. The restaurant is conveniently located just outside the walking district.
Upon entering, we were promptly seated and handed the menu. We ordered the 10 oz ribeye steak and the 8 oz filet mignon, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the restaurant also offers free-flow soup, garlic bread, and soft drinks with every meal.
When our steaks arrived, the generous portion sizes immediately caught our attention. Each dish came with a sunny-side-up egg, broccoli, and a side of spaghetti. The ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare, while the filet mignon was medium well — both were incredibly juicy and tender. To top it off, we were served ice cream at the end of our meal.
Overall, the dining experience exceeded our expectations. The quality, quantity, and price point made this meal excellent value for money. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a satisfying steak...
Read moreUpdate: Thankful for the owner to respond so quickly and for the education on Taiwanese-style steak. My original comments below were under the assumption that the food would be marinated like Western-style. Also, the drinks are self-serve. Also, it seems the 10% fee on the receipt is apparently only a suggestion.
Original: Typically when you cook steak, you at least let it marinade in salt and pepper. This is important to do before you cook the steak because the salt helps to seals in the juices from the meat. In addition, it is important to let the meat rest so the juices return from the surface to the center. I ordered a ribeye, and this steak was dry with no flavor. When I say dry, not even the A1 steak sauce could save it. The steak was served on a sizzling platter like they're fajitas. I guess presentation is more important than letting meat rest. I understand that for the price, I don't expect a prime cut of beef. But what they did to that ribeye was sacrilegious. On top of that, they charge a mandatory 10% service fee, when I didn't have any water served.
Other than that, the garlic bread was okay when dipped in the...

Draught beer on pints about 500ml for only 100. Free flow sodas, garlic bread and corn soup. And ice cream at the end ! What a meal. All in all for about 1400. We...
