Just Sleep Ximending — Hotel in Taipei

We very much enjoyed our stay, and would absolutely stay there again! There were 7 of us, with 3 rooms. Here are some random items that might help others:

Customer Service - everyone was very helpful and friendly!

Location - Can't be beat. Right outside is the 7-11 and an entrance to Ximen Station. Across the street is the heart of Ximending. Anything you can possibly need is within walking distance.

Breakfast & Eating/Sitting Area - there was good selection of food for breakfast, some American and some Asian. They are very good at refilling foods that run out. Of my 8 days, sadly we were only served Pineapple for one day - it was so yummy, so enjoy it! They do a great job of keeping the seating area clean and tidy. The area is very handy to meet as a group, and you can also bring back food and enjoy it at the hotel.

Rooms - We booked Deluxe Triple, Superior and Hollywood King. The Deluxe Triple is very large, and had a great view looking out to Ximending. While the Hollywood King was more expensive than the Superior, the Superior was more spacious? Also, one of the Hollywood King rooms we had only had one bedside table while the Superiors had two? And specifically for the Hollywood King, we wish there was more space for placing the suitcase as there are no drawers, we kept opening and closing the suitcase and there was no real space to lay it open. The other two room types others were able to do that without problem as they had long benches. I would not recommend spending the extra for the Hollywood King.

Luggage Storage - they were very good about storing our luggage. We arrived at 8am, and they stored everything until our rooms were ready. Then we had a late departure at 6pm, and again, they stored everything for us until our car to the airport came. Also, we stayed there initially, made a short trip to HK, and then returned to Just Sleep Ximending. They stored the extra luggage we did did not need while we were in HK - that was so handy! And there is a luggage scale which also was very useful!

Laundry - it was very convenient to have laundry facilities. One thing to note for those coming from North America - both the washer and dryer take extremely long times. While they were larger loads of clothes and a lot of cotton, it was over an hour to wash, and probably close to 3 hours to dry (and you would have to keep checking to start a new dryer cycle so we had to stay close by) - it wasn't just me, as a few others commented while we were waiting for...

FREE TEA/COFFEE AREA: Clever use of the breakfast area for a free tea/coffee area after 1:00 pm daily, with many sofas for relaxation.

GOOD CLEANING & UPDATE INTERIORS: Great housekeeping n trendy n new interiors. But the towels looked a bit old and did not fit the overall feel of the hotel.

IRREGULAR SHAPED ROOM: We stayed in room 917 which was irregular in shape with a huge pillar right beside the bed.

NO BEDSIDE TABLE: There was no bedside table nor charging outlet on the pillar side of the king size bed. A queen size bed would have left enough room for a bedside table top.

AIRCON: The aircon blew right into my partner’s head while he slept (pillar side). Not a good design.

STRANGE LIGHTING CONTROL: The master switch turns off ALL lights including the bathroom lights and bathroom exhaust/ventilation fan. We did not realize till the 2nd nite that we had to turn on the light switch right outside the bathroom after turning off ALL lights. If you don’t do that, a strange smell will emanate from the toilet the whole night :(

STRANGE SOCKET BEHAVIOUR: When we pushed our phone charger into the socket, it sometimes worked n sometimes didn’t. We had to discover through trial and error that you cannot push too hard into the socket. The socket works only if you loosen up the plug a bit away from the socket :(

OVERALL: While the cleaning and all frontline staff were great and interiors were nice, I minused 1 star for the little annoyances mentioned above. Advance tips or instructions to help guests to handle these idiosyncracies would have been much appreciated instead of leaving guests to “explore” them...

We want to express our thanks to the incredible team at Just Sleep. It was a delight to stay with you, you made us feel like at home. We highly appreciate that you were so caring about our travel chaos / delay for a day and we got the money refunded for the missed night with the proof of flight cancellation.

The room was designed very smart and spacious (two single bed). Could hear a bit the noise of the street though (busses beep loudly when they signal to turn left/right) - light sleepers should pack earplugs.

Excellent location, very close to metro and 7-eleven directly downstairs.

Breakfast choices were great, top value for money.

To improve is the communication that earthquakes are currently happening and what to do for inexperienced travellers. We woke up due to the shaking and felt uncomfortable. Also had panicking guests on our floor knocking on the doors in panic and that made us very anxious and go to the front desk in our pj’s to get information on how to behave during the night.
