Tucked away in the side streets of Ximending, Yongfu Ice Cream doesn’t rely on flashy décor or Instagram-worthy gimmicks. Instead, it wins purely by flavor—simple, honest, and deeply nostalgic. This time, I went with three classic choices: egg, taro, and peanut. The moment the spoon touches the ice cream, you can feel its smooth, velvety texture—soft, clean, and free of icy grains. It’s exactly the kind of mouthfeel that makes traditional Taiwanese ice cream so comforting.
The egg flavor is unexpectedly gentle yet memorable. It carries a light aroma of custard and milk, with sweetness that’s delicate rather than heavy. It feels like a refined version of the old-school egg ice pops many of us grew up with—simple, subtle, but irresistibly easy to keep eating.
The taro flavor showcases Yongfu’s craftsmanship at its best. The aroma is rich without being overly sweet, and you can actually taste the grainy, earthy texture of real taro. It’s smooth but not artificial, creamy yet still reminiscent of mashed taro. Every bite tastes natural, balanced, and surprisingly comforting.
Then comes the peanut flavor, undeniably classic. It starts creamy and mild, then slowly releases a warm roasted-peanut fragrance. There’s no greasy finish, no cloying sweetness—just a deep, nutty aroma with a soft, savory whisper at the end that keeps the flavor layered and satisfying.
What makes Yongfu special is how unfussy it is—no theatrics, no excess. Just real ingredients, controlled sweetness, and flavors that taste honest and clean. Eating it isn’t only about cooling off; it feels like returning to a summer afternoon from childhood, digging into a cup of ice cream under the shade of an old storefront.
A quiet scoop of happiness in the middle of Ximending—simple, nostalgic, and completely...
