Steakhouse featuring high-quality steaks with rushed service in a compact environment
Food: (5/5) For lunch, we ordered two lunch sets: the Japan Wagyu "A5" Filet Mignon Steak (120g) and the In-house USDA Prime "Dry-Aged" NY Strip (14 days and above). Each set comes with your choice of a starter, soup, side, and desert with tea/coffee. We started off strong with the seared scallop and grilled albacore, which were both excellent. The soups were unimpressive - the mushroom cappuccino felt like a gimmick and didn't have much umami taste while the minestrone could've used more seasoning. Both steaks were perfectly cooked - the Wagyu was extremely marbled and melted in your mouth and the Dry-Aged NY Strip had great beef flavor. The sides (pan-fried zucchini and the sautéed mushrooms) were just solid. The deserts were excellent. The marscarpone and coffee parfait offered the perfect combination of crispy cocoa and cantucci (biscotti) paired with QQ mochi with various coffee flavors. The basque cake was paired with a lovely pistachio ice cream. We could've gone without the soups and sides but would've loved larger portions on the impressive appetizers.
Service: (3.5/5) Service was rushed throughout the meal. We were immediately seated (despite arriving early for our meal) without a warm welcome. Waitstaff did explain the menu and certain dishes, but very much in haste. While we appreciated the quick service and attentive clearing of plates, we felt harried during our visit. Towards the end, service even started serving dessert and post-meal beverages, before we had finished our savory sides!
Atmosphere: (3.5/5) The interior of Danny's Steakhouse is cramped. There's a small bar area at the front of the restaurant, a main seating area with two rows of tables, and two auxiliary seating on the sides. While Danny's features a raised ceiling with floor-to-ceiling windows, the table arrangement felt confined - you could intimately understand the conversation of the next-door table. The seats and tables themselves are comfy and covered with high-quality linens. The his/hers bathrooms are single-person use and compact. The restaurant was playing loud upbeat music, which clashed with the upscale nature of a steakhouse.
Value: (4/5) The lunch set meals offers plenty of food. While the prices are high compared to other local restaurants, Danny's offers a reasonable value proposition given the high-quality of their steaks and...
Read moreWe ordered an in-house dry-aged ribeye steak course for 2 persons, and overall it was amazing. The shrimp and scallop entrées were both delicious, but we did agree that the scallop dish can be further improved to have much caramelization under the same rareness.
The mushroom cappuccino utilizing the molecular cuisine technique was magnificent, and the texture of the soup was light but filled with flavors. This did not apply to the consomme as it's not flavorsome enough to bring out the deliciousness of the dumpling.
The main dish, ribeye steaks, was phenomenal. The meat was cooked perfectly and there were two different cuts possessing unique and distinct flavors and textures. The right amount of caramelization with exact rareness enhanced the flavors to another level, and you just can't stop the fork and knife until its finished. The sides were also quite delicious to complement the main dish.
We had a strawberry quartet and a lava cake for our desserts, while the lava cake was good, the quartet was not that amazing. The alcohol inside the quartet was light and it's not strong enough to bring out the flavor as well as enrich the whole dessert. A complimentary chocolate ganache was offered to celebrate our anniversary and it's quite delicious with subtle and succulent flavors.
The only thing we both slightly complained about was the service. Don't get me wrong as the service showed strong professionalism and great efficiency, it's just lacked a sort of friendliness and consideration. Every waiter or waitress has trained to be professional but seems impatient towards inquiries from customers. The attitude seemed to be implying that we were not knowledgeable or financially capable to be able to dine in this restaurant. For a fine dining restaurant and one with Michelin Star like Danny's, we do believe that it can be further improved to make Danny's one of the pinnacles but not just serving...
Read moreDanny’s Steak House delivered another outstanding experience on our Saturday night visit. Despite our packed travel schedule, the restaurant staff kindly handled our appointment changes, which set a positive tone for the evening. Last time I dined here was before COVID, and I had genuinely fond memories of both the food and service. I was a bit worried about whether the post-pandemic quality would match my previous experience, but those concerns vanished the moment our meal began.
The breads, salads, and soups were all delicious and freshly made, setting the stage for an enjoyable dinner. Our main course, the dry-aged steak, came out a tad closer to medium instead of the medium rare we ordered, but the flavor was so rich and satisfying that it hardly mattered—the dry age process truly brought out the depth of the beef. Dessert was also a highlight: beautifully presented and excellent in taste, though I was a little disappointed there wasn’t any decaf coffee available. Thankfully, the iced tea was a refreshing substitute.
Overall, Danny’s Steak House continues to impress with excellent service and consistently delicious food. I fully intend to return next time I’m in Taipei. Thank you to the team for making our night...
