"Wok by Obond: A Refreshing Blend of Hospitality and Fusion Cuisine"
One restaurant that recently left an impression and inspired me to pen this review is Wok by Obond. The establishment surprised me with its high standards, despite being in its trial operation phase. In Taiwan, where the food industry is thriving and every restaurant has its unique personality, it's rare to witness the welcoming service that Wok by Obond offers. The waiting staff at the door, eager to serve guests, made me feel as if I was returning home.
Every staff member served with a genuine spirit and maintained an excellent balance between attentiveness and respect for personal space. Their attention to detail was impressive.
When it came to the food, each dish was a delight. The standout was the chicken dish, a clever fusion of Chinese and French culinary techniques, highlighted by the chef's creativity. Crafting fusion dishes that maintain the identity of both cuisines can be challenging, but Wok by Obond pulls it off with panache. The food is savory and satisfying without being overly greasy. If there is a minor drawback, it would be the slightly generous portions which some may find overwhelming.
The ambiance and layout of the private dining room are just right, comfortably accommodating a party of up to 10 people. The pacing of the dishes was perfectly timed to my preference – neither too slow nor too rushed.
In sum, Wok by Obond offers a delightful dining experience, skillfully combining attentive service and a unique fusion cuisine. It's a culinary adventure that's certainly...
Read moreI debated for a while whether to write this review because I know taste is very personal, and dining experiences can be so subjective. But I feel it’s only fair to share my honest thoughts to help others who might be considering a visit.
We had really high hopes because getting a reservation wasn’t easy, and we were excited for what was supposed to be one of the highlights of our trip to Taiwan. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations. There were four of us, and we all agreed that the only thing we truly enjoyed was the tea-infused ice cream that came with one of the desserts. Everything else was either way too salty or just confusing, especially the soup dish. It had so many different flavors going on, but none of them seemed to complement one another, if that makes sense.
Equally disappointing was the service. Unlike most fine dining establishments, utensils were not replaced between courses, despite the nature of the dishes clearly warranting it. When we requested fresh utensils, the staff obliged but failed to clear the crumbs from the table, which further detracted from the experience.
What surprised us most was how strict they were with all the booking rules and policies, yet the actual food and service didn’t reflect the same level of care. While the concept and creativity behind the menu were commendable, the execution, both in terms of culinary delivery and service, left much...
Read moreThis 3 hour dining experience was one of my favorite ones yet. The menu is bold and well crafted and every ingredient in each dish serves its own purpose, and the servers do an excellent job explaining why each ingredient is in the dish. You won't be blown away by flashy ingredients like caviar or foie gras or other delecacies, but the ingredients that they do use pack so much flavor and do a phenomenal job in representing Taiwan. The servers were very attentive and gave some excellent recommendations, and even gave us a free shot of their local liquor as it was our first time in Taiwan. The set course menu is advertised to be 13 dishes but we received 15, one of which was a traditional Taiwanese birthday noodle dish. Overall, there was not a single dull, or "fluff" dish, and every dish was packed with flavors that all complimented each other very well. While the service was 3 hours long, we did not feel like there was a lot of downtime in-between as is the case with some other set menus. The drinks were also incredibly unique, well thought out, and used some ingredients that I had never seen in drinks before. This is certainly an unforgettable experience and one of the best Michelin restaurants I...
