Great value/price proposition, nice to find a plentiful vegan buffet while traveling :). They were also open early so great for breakfast/brunch. (Other vegan options open on a Sunday morning were mostly restricted to dumplings, which are tasty... But not as filling)
The place: this is a Buddhist buffet restaurant. The only seating was bar-style, as in other customer's pictures. I did not double-check whether everything was vegan, but I did not see egg in the fried rice, there were Buddhist hymns playing on repeat, there did not appear to be onion/garlic in the dishes... So I think fully vegan.
The food: lots of green veggies, tofu/Buddhist fake meat dishes, some noodles, fried rice. In the morning there was also congee, and hashbrowns in the buffet. The tofu/Yuba dishes I got were somehwhat oily, but tasty overall: I liked the stewed Yuba and curry tofu the most out of what I got. You could stay healthier by sticking to the veggies and some less-fried dishes. We arrived around 10:40am and the food was not piping hot. I would love to stop by right at opening for an optimal experience :)
The process: you get a paper plate and some tongs and just take whatever from the buffet. The ladies don't seem to speak English; you pay by weight at the end. It cost us NTD 298 for the two plates pictured. They offered bowls of rice at the end, which are presumably cheaper than the...
Read moreBuddhist/vegan buffet. Really high quality veg. at cheap prices! They don't speak much English but are so friendly and helpful. Always a good variety on offer. They have a few grab-and-go items in addition to the buffet - the only one I've tried is a bao with one of those fake-chicken patties, pickled mustard greens, coriander, peanut butter. The fake-chicken isn't my personal fave but the other aspects of that sandwich were wonderful, so might be a great option for others! But usually I just go for the buffet. For about NT$100 (about CAD$4.50) you can get a heaping plate of wonderful food. It seems like they only have brown rice (no white) but other than that it's a perfect example of this kind of neighbourhood vegan buffet. I go there about once ever...
Read moreThis is vegetarian eatery that has been in operation for 30 years and very popular with the locals.
Basically you get a paper plate or box and fill it up with whatever you want to eat, get it weighed at the counter, and pay according to weight. Great assortment of vegetable, mushroom, soy, mock meat, and noodles to choose from.
If you dine in, there is a spacious dining area on the second floor and you can help yourself to hot soup for free. The hot soup helps as the dishes can be less than warm after being set out for a while. Bring your own cutlery and you get a bowl of rice free!
Aside from the “buffet” dishes, this place is popular for its cheap 85NT bento boxes and...
