A highly recommended Retro pork chop diner by a friend of mine when I visited Taipei! Truth be told, I really liked the whole dining experience here, the old school aesthetics and the taste of grandma's hands. 👵🏻
It is situated up 1 floor through an outdoor entrance, and you can't miss it with their giant green sign board.
Here is what we had:
🍚🍝 For every main dish and choice of poultry, a side of light soup (with gluten slices & mustard green) and a choice of rice or noodles (dry / soup) will be part of the order. Depending on what you prefer to go with your main dish, the carbs will also come with some condiments. Both of which has the same minced meat sauce drizzled over it.
🍗 Roasted Chicken Leg - 鸡腿 (NT 170) It was rather boney, but the meat was rather juicy and tender. With the heavy marination of powdered spices on the skin, the flavours are immersed through the flesh as well. The skin was mildly crispy from the roast. Coupled with the fermented sides of tangy pickled radish and cucumber slices, it changes up the taste with some crunch and cuts the grease. I rate: 3.5/5 🌟
🥩 Fried Pork Chop - 猪肉排骨 (NT 170) This was definitely the star of their shop. The pork chop was battered in spices and corn starch. It gave a crispy yet sticky texture to the batter, it retaining the tenderised thin pork's flavours. It was quite a delight to have this. As the flavours for this were quite heavy, the side of marinated cucumbers was refreshing. I rate: 4.5/5 🌟
🥬 Blanched Greens - 烫青菜 (NT 50) Added some greens for some fibre, and I thought it would just be lightly blanched in water. To my surprise, there was a light umami fragrance of bonito flakes, which gave it a clean yet flavourful taste to the heavier mains. I...

Not surprised that the hot plate of food arrived at my table within minutes of me sitting down. She showed me where the utensils were under the table, and politely smiled and wished me to enjoy my meal. I really love the courteousness I've experienced in Taiwan, such a contrast to the attitudes we get in America. I ordered their famed pork chop rice combo, and it certainly met my expectations of what Taiwanese pork chop should taste like. The meat was still on the bone, thick slaved, fried in a crispy batter and flavored. The accompanying braised pork rice, veggies, pickles and ginger slices all created a wonderful flavor combination along with the pork chop. Even the bowl of bamboo shoots soup was well prepared. I had to finish eating my meal quickly since everyone was packing up for closing time. But I enjoyed every rushed bite and savored it as long as I reasonably could. May try to come back for another meal before heading back to USA later this week, because I certainly won't get a meal like this back...
Read moreA very old school restaurant, this restaurant serve the local Pork Chop rice & other dishes. The Pork Chop rice comes with Pork Chop (not tough, juicy & flavourful), pickle cucumber & salted vege but taste good (not sourish but crispy & sweet for the cucumber) and rice with a little minced pork, tofu & 2 types of vege (each having their own home cook flavour) that makes it a very complete meal. Tastewise all of it is tasty & & well-balanced, which is surprising as Taiwan food taste is on the light side but for an old school restaurant who surpassed the light taste and show mastery in a well-balanced, complementing & having the right flavours is amazing. The waitress is very polite & helpful, there is a sense of warmth (like your dining at home) when dining here. Price wise is affordable as well. Initially awarded 5 stars but there was 2 small pork bones with the minced meat & a small mice meat the decor...
