The Backyard — Restaurant in Dar es-Salaam

This place is one of the most amazing places to be and visit. It is cool and warm place. As the name suggests, it is a real backyard. Having three sections.... juice bar, B53 and the banda, makes the place one of the place worth your time to visit and enjoy cool music. Above all, the food is worth and total value for your money. The burgers are exactly the same... the best burgers in town. Pizzas are very different from all places you've had in any restaurant you have visited. They have the best pizzas with excellent toppings and the dressing is just perfect and yummy. Mwendokasi chicken is to die for plus they have wild chicken (same as the wild wings but this is whole spring chicken with the same recipes of wild wings). Their mocktails are so good and my favorite is strawberry heaven. The service is amazing and on point, something which you can miss from all other restaurants in Tanzania. The owners have wonderful approach to all customers something which has been imbued to their stuff. They are keen to detail and it is one of the best places you can feel and be at home away from home! Feeling that you can't visit the place? This was our Third visit to the backyard and I must commend them for their consistency both in their meals and service. Today we decided to call and place our order before arrival, to save some time. The attendant on the phone was quick and efficient. Once we arrived our order didn’t take too long, was served as per our requests and our server was simply a delight. She constantly checked up on us to see if everything was alright and especially helped with my two young daughters. We received a side of breadsticks and their absolutely amazing karak chai that they recently launched at the Banda Café. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and were pleasantly surprised at the sight of our 3kids having the time of their life at the simple play area. They even had a lady at the play area to watch over the younger kids while parents enjoy their mocktails from the juice bar. I couldn’t recommend backyard more! Great food and great vibes right in the heart of bustling Dar es Salaam. It is part of the same group that runs Burger 53. The restaurant concept is beautiful and unique. It has cheeky and quirky signs around the place. I believe even a music video was shot here!

The food is amazing. They welcome you with free breadsticks, which were nice and crisp. We ordered burgers and spicy chicken drumsticks. The burger was a little soggy with the sauce, but it was delicious! The drumsticks were a little bit of spicy, sour, and sweet - quite a unique taste which I loved. The mint and lemon juice was also wonderful.

It seemed like the entire place was manned by trainee staff, which was interesting. They were all sweet and nice, although thr food took long to come and not all were comfortable using the card machine (we were going to be charged just TZS 390 instead of TZS 39,000 if I hadn't pointed it out!). But it's great they are encouraging many people into the restaurant service industry. Overall, a lovely experience and I hope to be back...
