The Best Restaurant in Stone Town
This is the most reliable place in all of Stone Town for a delicious meal. They serve amazing pizza, plenty of seafood dishes, a great variety of food, and even desserts. We were absolutely delighted by their desserts — even better than those at the Cape Town Fish Market.
It’s an Italian restaurant with a focus on pizza and pasta, but there’s so much more on the menu. The service from both the waitstaff and the chefs was outstanding. We couldn’t resist calling over the chef to personally express our admiration.
The restaurant offers both a veranda and an indoor dining area. If you visit the restroom, you’ll notice a touch of good humor in the decor. The music here is fantastic, featuring classic Italian pop hits from years gone by. I was thrilled to recognize the voices of Toto Cutugno, Adriano Celentano, Eros Ramazzotti, Zucchero, Riccardo Fogli, the group Ricchi e Poveri, and, of course, Al Bano and Romina Power. It was simply wonderful! Sorprendente!
Once a week, they have a special deal — order one pizza and get a second one free. On our first visit, we happened to catch this offer, and it was such a pleasant surprise! During our entire week in Stone Town, we kept coming back to this restaurant, skipping the chance to try new places. That’s how good...
Read moreI don't go to Italian restaurants abroad, but our travel mate was pregnant and asked us to eat a pizza as a favor. Pizza is clearly not a real pizza, even the awful frozen pizza from supermarket is better than that biscuit. Wifi is one shot just for an hour, even if you spend more than an hour there (service is also slow, so you will certainly). Prices are really high, I mean, you pay as you were in Italy (at a medium high pizzeria, not even a normal one!), but in Italy you eat real pizza, not a cookie. I guess none of the locals can afford eating there, maybe just very rich locals, considering than the average price for each of us was 1/10th of the Tanzanian average monthly wage. They say Italians gave good reviews on Pizza, but also my travel mates from Milan said "it is good", but in Milan they don't have real pizza too. I live near Naples, where pizza was invented, and those they sell for pizza is nothing more than a frozen cookie cooked in a microwave. The only good point is atmosphere, because if you come from days of dirty places here you can find at least an average atmosphere of calmness and clean for western standards, even if the 4 italian pop songs they play in loop are...
Read moreI wanted to treat myself with some “real” pizza and a glass of red wine, so this was the place to go. 100% recommended, staff is incredibly nice and pizza was 10 times better than the other one I got in Zanzibar, no surprise with their good Italian oven. The dough is really good and what they put on has quality, so I am willing to pay some shillings extra for that. I chose a tuna and onion pizza which was really amazing, with some real pepper and oil (also vinegar) on the table that I loved to make use of. I haven’t seen that anywhere else around Zanzibar, though honestly I haven’t eaten in many (good) restaurants over here. Loved the fresh pepper and oil as an add-on!! Only had pizza, so cannot say anything about the rest of the menu, but the classics of Italian cuisine were all there. It was amazing to also hear some Italian words again.. it seems the family enjoys sitting here too. I would come back anytime, maybe on a Wednesday. I heard there’s a 2 for 1 pizza offer then....
