Staff was rude (even the cleaners, one of them slammed the door on us after we requested an additional towel, and shower gel that was missing in the room), and we did not feel welcomed in this hotel, as well as not being treated the same way as the other clients from the hotel (i.e. Although the restaurant was pretty much empty during our stay, we had to get up to get a menu and order or lunch and dinner, whereas other clients from different tables we looked after and received a better service from the waiters.). The menu should be reviewed to ensure that it reflects what is currently being made by the restaurant (i.e. Items missing or no longer provided, replace cake of day by cake of the week to avoid any confusion, etc.). Bedroom was really dark compared to the pictures... The option to pay in advance was not put in place... So be aware to pay when you are about to check in, even if you select the option 'pay now'. Been to two differents hotels before this one, and the service and staff were great. Probably provide staff training may help to solve some of the above issues. The man at the reception was not pleasant to deal with. For instance, we used the hotel restaurant and wanted smaller dollar notes on a 10 usd note instead of receiving shilling as change (was our last day on the island, so no longer needed using this currency); and were suggested to ask at the reception, which we did and the latter basically denied the request and then barely acknowledged us after. After going back to the restaurant, we explained the situation, and someone from the restaurant managed to obtain the 'requested' notes from the same person at the reception.... Therefore ended our so far really amazing trip on a bad note. Would definitely not...
Read moreIt is middle of the town. You won't see any city view or, definitely, ocean view. It is surrounded by buildings. Swimming pool looks ok from the picture, but it is very small and surrounded by walls.
5 stars: staffs' kindness, tour concierge, breakfast, bar (it is very hard to find alcohol in Stone Twon, but it provide Kilimanjaro beer only for $4 for guests, has swing seats, garden is beautiful). It is somewhat romantic and fun to have beer and food at the bar. Price is affordable and tastes good!
5 stars: has an elevator
3 stars: each bed has its own led booklight and electricity access.
2 stars: location. It is in the middle of the town so you can see the atmosphere in daily basis. However, very hard to find as Jaw's corner got divided in five paths. Taxi can not reach although it's been a short walk. When you are in rush, all you can count on is your feet.
1 stars: room cleanness and equipment. 1st floor has no balcony but moles and smells. Mosquito nets have dusts and so many dead bugs stuck on the fabric, especially at the top and bottom. Also, it said it is kitchenette, but utensil is very limited. Considering this hotel is far from car-accessible area and you have restaurant at the hotel and night markets nearby, I seriously can not imagine who would use the kitchen.
Glasses in the bathroom are in a small dish which does not contain them safe. Even, the dish does not fit near the basin area which makes so easy to drop it and possibly cause broken glasses.
0 stars: lure people with its own description on oceanview or cityview possibilities.
0 stars: do not come with this price. You can find much better local luxurious hotels with ocean view. Call them and...
Read moreThe only good thing about this hotel is the location. After several wonderful hotels, this hotel is the opposite of a crowning glory at the end of our trip. In short: a disaster, rip-off and not recommended. ||||Throughout Zanzibar, people are incredibly friendly, but not at this hotel. When we checked in, we had to sign that the hotel disclaims any liability whatsoever. When we opened the room, the first thing we had in our hands was the door trap. The room is run down, old and not clean. The safe did not work, nor did the kettle. The coffee sticks were old and one lump and not usable. ||So we went to the restaurant to quench our thirst first. As soon as we sat down, a few millimeters next to us a coconut fell from the tree and almost hit us. There are no warning signs, only a bunch of broken umbrellas, which protect you from the falling coconuts. No one apologized. When we wanted to pay for our drinks, they wouldn't accept credit cards and insisted on cash, which we didn't have, with a lot of effort we were then able to get the drinks booked to the room.||||The breakfast is a disaster. The coffee a watery, tasteless broth. Filter coffee. How can that be Italian??? So we ordered an espresso at the bar, which we had to pay for separately. When you enter the restaurant, the staff hides behind the bar watching TV and hoping not to have to get up.||||At the hotel you can book tours and since we wanted to escape we considered booking one. You can pay for the tours with a card as well. The salesman suggested we go with us to an ATM and quoted the price. It seemed outrageously high and since we have been on the island for a while, we knew this was an attempt to rip us off. If you book the tours over the internet, e.g. getyourguide, you pay a fraction of what the hotel wanted....|| We did not dare to leave our things in the hotel and dragged all valuables and passport and documents with us, as I said, the hotel assumes no liability and does not guarantee security||||Das einzig gute an dieser Absteige, ist die Lage.
