The Greatest Shop in the whole of Stone Town. Honestly if size and weight were not a problem with the luggage - I'd have bought this whole shop! The people, the vibes, the friendliness were all sublime. The captain is the friendliest man in the whole of Zanzibar, and a super genuine soul that has a permanent smile on his face whilst being seriously talented in artistry and woodwork. You are free to see the artists at work and the factory - and you can genuinely see the uniqueness in their work. This shop probably has the most unique work I've seen in Zanzibar and in my opinion is a must to at least visit when in Stone Town. I found the prices to be quite reasonable here -, we bought a small canvas with a door as well as a key holder. Genuinely there is something for everyone in this shop and something that fits all shapes and sizes. The artwork showcases the unique doors of Zanzibar and feels like you're taking a piece of Zanzibar home with you.

If you buy one souvenir from Zanzibar, this is where you should buy it from. You really will take a slice of Zanzibar back with you - unique gift-sized replicas of Zanzibar's famous ornate doors. The place is actually a workshop and you can see all the craftsmen/artists at work - using recycled wood, plaster of paris, chisellling instruments and acrylic paints. The results are just gorgeous. I went to buy one item ended up buying four.

The only piece of souvenir i got from Zanzibar. The owner nicknamed 'captain' is friendly and a colourful character. He used to be a Tanzania National footballer and played professionally for clubs in the middle east. After his retirement from pro football, he started a souvenir workshop. His shop is filled with artisans rehabilitated from a sketchy past producing arts and crafts onsite.

It's a beautiful store with very unique pieces but the store owners behavior had a lot to be desired. First we were interested in 3 pieces inside the large store and thought there was no one until we hear "yes?" from him sitting outside and across the street. He then expects us to bring him the pieces all the way outside and across the street to keep discussing, not easy when you want to compare several. In addition, during negotiations (expected everywhere here), he was very rude to the point we just had to walk away out of principle. I hope he changes his behavior for future customers and the craftsmen who...
