Fisherman Tours and Travel — Local services in Shangani

Having just got back from Zanzibar, I had quite a mixed experience with Fisherman Tours and I have given a fair review considering my experience. I used the operator TUI who use them for airport transfers. In regards to the airport transfers, they waited for us and were on time when we both arrived and departed and no problems here from both the hotel and airport.

I booked two trips with Fisherman Tours , one for Stone town and the Mizumi national park safari. The negative experience was that the safari got cancelled due to weather in the park - the reason for the negative review isn’t that it got cancelled , as I appreciate they can’t control the weather. it’s that me and my mother had to wake up at 430am to be picked up at 5.00am yet they didn’t communicate to cancel with me, at all , even though they already knew it was cancelled. It got to 5.20am and I asked the hotel to call the tour guides who then say “ ahh sorry it’s cancelled , apologies you woke up for this” . However where was the communication? I emailed them the afternoon before at 4pm where there employee Mpani confirmed it was still a go ahead - so they had both my email and phone number and should have made sure I was aware of this. I had no missed calls or emails; they didn’t try . This was disappointing and should have been communicated better by them and simply not good enough - I reported this to TUI who completely agreed this was poor communication.

Lastly, I had pre booked the stone town tour two days after this - This was a really good tour which we really enjoyed. The tour guide called Harry was very informative and knowledgable and he answered any question we had. It was a private tour and felt like we learnt a lot and an overall great experience.

Overall, I think 3 stars is a fair review - There were some good positives , 1 really good tour and airport transfers spot on however as mentioned having to wake up in middle of the night and no communication was very poor and sadly a negative experience . I would give fisherman tours a chance again if I go to Zanzibar in the future , but I think there is something to learn from...

Yesterday we went on a tour with Fisherman Tours and Travel. Our guide was Othman Amir. What an amazing guide! We started the tour at the spice farm. Othman learned us all about the spices, in a compelling and interesting way. He made the spice tour a little fun competition, and told us a lot about the Zanzibar/African culture. He was always open to questions, and happy to answer.

After the spice farm we went to Prison Island, and finally Stone Town. We felt like Othman was very educated about the history of these places. Besides this he was patient with us, and overall a really respectful and nice guide. After the tour was finished, Othman walked us back to our taxi and we said our goodbyes.

Overall: We give the tour a very high rating. We enjoyed every single bit, and learned so much about the places we visited and the culture that resolves around Africa. Thanks for everything Othman!

Simply AWFUL! They missed our 5 am airport pick up! I had contacted our representative the night before to ask why they had not confirmed our pickup and he responded "noted" no show the next morning and we would have missed our flight if the hotel was not kind enough to drive us an hour. Called emergency number not helpful at all. Contacted ground contact and of no use. Asked him to meet us at airport to navigate and of course he did not. The company never reached out to discuss the issues or even apologize. Worst ground team I have ever experienced.
