Tropic City is a hidden gem cocktail bar in the heart of Bangkok, located at the entrance to Talat Noi, just off the iconic Charoen Krung Road. The moment you step into the quaint courtyard, you’re transported to a tropical haven. Inside, the ground-floor bar (distinct from the upstairs restaurant) brims with vibrant neon lights, tropical décor, and an inviting ambiance perfect for intimate gatherings or relaxed conversations with friends.
The cocktail menu is a work of art. Each drink bursts with tropical flavours and is beautifully presented, complemented by a selection of spicy snacks. The cocktails, ranging between 300-500 THB, are worth every baht for their originality and taste. The only downside is the beer option—Stella Artois on draught, which feels overpriced at 330 THB.
The service is top-notch. The English-speaking staff are friendly, skilled, and attentive, ensuring that every drink is prepared with care. Their efficiency means there’s little to no wait time for orders.
The atmosphere is a perfect blend of cosy and lively, with a Cuban-inspired décor and a playlist of tropical beats that set the mood without being overwhelming. The bar is impeccably clean, and the intimate lighting adds to its charm.
While it’s a bit of a walk from the nearest BTS station (Saphan Taksin), the location’s allure more than compensates for the slight inconvenience. Tropic Bar is a must-visit spot for cocktail enthusiasts, and I can’t wait to return!

Read moreThree of us were meeting up for the first time in several years, and we wound up at Tropic City on the recommendation of one of our group who had been there a number of times before. (When she’s in BKK, she stays just down the road.) She said it was a very mellow place with a cool vibe, nice music, great cocktails, and she liked the fact that the bartender always remembered her. Unfortunately, we had a less than stellar experience.
The cocktails were great, and the service was fine. The menu was in English and while the drinks (specializing in rum drinks) were good, they were a bit pricy (400 to 550 Baht) by Bangkok standards, especially given the small-to-medium size glasses and the amount of ice each contained.
The music was fine when we arrived about 8:15pm, but it started to get louder. and louder. and LOUDER, to the point that by 9pm, the 3 of us could no longer hear each other at our small table. We asked the manager (foreigner, bushy beard) if the music could be turned dowm. He replied that there was a special event that evening and the music would be loud all night. Unfortunately, it was a special night for us, too, and that was NOT the answer we were looking for. A cocktail bar with normally mellow music playing music that was (in my friend’s words) “kinda’ punk, kinda’ alternative, very obnoxious” and VERY loud. Not the vibe that we were looking for at a cocktail bar on a Tuesday night when paying those prices. Very disappointing.
Given the volume and style of music and the obnoxious manager who made no attempt to apologize, we will not...

As soon as I knew that this tropical oasis was just steps from my hotel (talk about being lucky!), I made an advanced reservation with them ! With its #6 ranking in Asia’s 50 Best Bars, it was a no-brainer visit.
True to its name, the vibe screamed island getaway, complete with lush greenery and tiki-inspired decor. And the drinks? Oh boy, the drinks! Every sip was a tropical explosion.
What we had.
Crossroads: Imagine a Bloody Mary’s cooler, more sophisticated cousin. Savory, slightly sweet, and absolutely sublime. Went down smooth and my most favourite drink.
Double Dance Lover: Who says you can’t have Stranger & Sons gin in Bangkok? This mango sticky rice-inspired cocktail was heaven in a glass, with a surprising panda hint. @strangerandsons
Chronic Iced Tea: This rum-based beauty transported us straight to Hawaii. Sweet, fruity, and bursting with coconut, pineapple, and passionfruit. ️
Welcome to the Jungle: Served in a whole pineapple, this wasn’t your cocktail in a pineapple . Think sophisticated rum vibes with bold orange and vanilla notes.
Tropic City doesn’t mess around with their tropical flavors, and that’s exactly what I loved. The young, chilled atmosphere made it the perfect pre-dinner stop before indulging in the delights of Yaowarat Road.
