After a disappointing lunch earlier in the day, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible Khao Soi I had for dinner along the outdoor food street at Chiang Mai Gate. The food was served piping hot and impressively fast, making it perfect for anyone craving a comforting meal.

The Khao Soi itself was rich, flavourful, and perfectly spiced—a true testament to authentic Northern Thai cuisine. What truly elevated the experience was the availability of fresh onions, bean sprouts, and salted vegetables as standard side servings, all offered for free. These accompaniments complemented the dish beautifully, adding layers of texture and flavour.

Best Khao Soi? Hardly! I eat KS every day sometimes twice a day, it’s my favorite meal. I gave this spot a try and honestly I’m not impressed. I ordered the beef bc of th recommendations in the reviews, and sure, the meat was tender, but that was the only positive. The soup was watery and tasted like beef broth instead of being a creamy curry soup which is what KS is meant to be. The worst part was that less than 2 hours after eating I was on the toilet painfully expelling the soup. My body did not like putting this into it and I don’t have a sensitive stomach. If you want a real proper bowl of KS go to 267 Kaeonawarat rd. Also this isn’t a dig at the staff, they were super friendly but I’m sorry to say the KS was neither good...
