Mary Restaurant — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

I feel slightly bad because all the reviews were stellar, but I stayed at the hotel next door and I came here for food a couple of times. It's usually packed with Westerners at night, and there's a couple of Westerners in the afternoon.

The reason I gave 4 stars was because firstly, I'm Southeast Asian, so I have had plenty of Thai food, both in my home country and within SEA (especially Thailand), and IMO, over a few times eating here, the Thai food was below average. I remembered the moo thod gratiem (my favorite dish) was too salty and garlicky. I think I tried another Thai dish another time but wasn't too impressed either.

What I'll say though, is the sandwich was really super good. Definitely one of the best ones I've had in Asia. I can't remember what exactly I ordered, but I think it might have been a chicken sandwich, but still, it was good.

So my conclusion is that it might be a hit or miss, or it might just cater to Western palate more. Prices were IMO a little pricier for Chiang Mai, but probably just 5-15 baht more, maybe? Anyways, it's still super affordable IMO and I think it's a reasonable place to grab a grub if...

"AVOID" this place,they are very cheating, they have 2 menus(double standard), First menu is cheaper (photo below) this menu is for selling locals. The second menu is more expensive (same food),this menu is for selling foreigners, ripped off tourists! I will tell you some example by translating Thai language and you will know that they are overcharging forefingers, Fried rice with pork 35 Baht Fried rice-seafood 40 Baht Fried rice with squid 40 Baht ..... Pork or chicken menu are around 30-35 Baht Seafood menus are around 40 Baht. This is what Thai...

I've passed by this place many, many times, but always was prejudiced against it because I thought it's huge Western menu meant they can't make good Thai food.

I was wrong. I came here twice, the first time I ordered cashew chicken stir fry, and the second time I ordered the river steamed fish.

Cashew nut chicken: really nice flavor and saltiness, meat is tender

Streamed fish: wow, so delicious, fatty, flaky, fresh, incredible sauce, huge too. For 200 baht I think this is a steal. Though not recommended if you're not used to bones. Takes 20-30...
