I was staying in the hotel just opposite, and my first day I was caught by Mary Restaurant (the restaurant opposite this) as it was packed. Mary Restaurant IMO did not fare that well in terms of Thai food, and I noticed it was populated by only Westerners. This restaurant, however, was filled with locals, hence decided to try it on another night for dinner.
And I struck jackpot. This is obviously a very popular local place, it's filled with locals nightly. The food is also much more authentic and local (trust me, I'm Southeast Asian). Another telltale sign was I asked for not too spicy, and it was still spicy for me, haha. I enjoyed it! Nice place, nice prices, nice service.
They also serve frogs so you might want to try it if you want something adventurous. Didn't have it here, but had it before -- tastes like...

The waiter only asked if I like spicy when he brought me the food. Then he brought me the dried chilies. I suspected I was in trouble with that move. I think because I am a farang that they altered the dish. I actually can't recall having been this disappointed in thai food in a long time. I didn't even bother eating it. Not worth the calories.
