Okay, so I made the mistake of going to this restaurant on Songkran. Getting there was a nightmare with the traffic. I don't know what I was thinking. But in the end it was worth the trip. I've eaten at another Mexican restaurant in Chiang Mai, in fact it's not far at all from Miguel's. But Miguel's is so superior to the other place, all you'll ever have to do is go to Miguel's time and again and try all the different dishes. Tonight I had the wet burrito, with beef. Pay the 59 Baht and get the enchilada sauce and the melted cheese on top. Truly worth it. I also had a full order of rice and beans. I could have done the half order of each, as the full order is good size. But I was hungry, and in the end, I finished it all. The dish also comes with a small Mexican salad, which also was delicious. Complimenting it all was a delicious side order of guacamole and two lime flavored margaritas. This was a spectacular meal. Maybe the best non-Thai meal that I've had since I moved here 4 months ago. They have a large menu, with many Mexican entrees and side dishes, and I can't wait to go back and try them all. With Songkran tonight it was innocence and Mayhem at once. I might avoid going at that time. This was as good as any Mexican food that I've had in the 30 years I lived in California. Highly recommended. I'll be back, and...
Read moreAwful. Any place that has tacos in flour tortillas is a clue that they probably don’t have great Mexican food. Of all the Mexican restaurants we tried in Chiang Mai this was the worst. I had pork tacos but asked for a corn tortilla. They used the same tortilla they use for hard shell but they didn’t heat it or anything so it was just a cold mess that fell apart. The pork inside was completely bland with no flavor, spices, salt or anything. That coupled with lettuce, and cheese that also had no flavor at all. Their chips and salsa…not spiced correctly. Also, terrible hot sauce. The margarita…another train wreck. Tasted like flavored ice water. Not made correctly either and a frozen margarita has to have finally chopped ice, which is didn’t. They need to add more lime juice, agave and the proper ratio of triple sec or some other orange liquor to the drink. A frozen margarita isn’t bland if you make it correctly but they didn’t seem to know anything about making drinks…but even if it wasn’t frozen, the drink was made incorrectly. My husband had a burrito which was also not good. The staff was nice. I think they just need someone to come in and fix the recipes and the food would be good. But right now, if you want Mexican, this is not a good choice...
Read moreWow!! Miguel's exceeded my expectations! I am from Texas with a Mexican family and I have high standards for Mexican food. This is the best Tex-Mex I have had on this side of the globe. The restaurant is adorable with a great patio decorated with a gorgeous and impressive succulent garden. There are beautiful Mexican murals with all the colors of Mexico painted to inspire your senses. The tequila was delicious and the food so fresh and flavorful! It fulfilled my need for home food. The music was dancy and made me feel at home. The service was wonderful and their understanding of Spanish and English was a delightful surprise. This is a true gem in Chiang Mai and is a must for anyone who adores Mexican or Tex-Mex food. I will be coming here as often as I can whenever I'm in Chiang Mai.
On a side note, I never feel it's fair to rate a restaurant on take out when using a 3rd party service like Grab or Food Panda. Someone else has handled your food and it's usually on the back of a speedy motor bike flying and swerving through traffic and going over bumps and potholes before it gets to your hands. Come to the restaurant yourself if you want to...
