The Dining Room at 137 Pillars House — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

This is beautiful restaurant with a great history. The service staff are excellent attentive and friendly. Sadly the food does not match the surroundings. When my wife and I arrived we advised our waitress that we do not like the food spicy. She acknowledged our request and said she would advise the chef. When our meals arrived the food was spicy and one dish in each of our orders was not edible. We sent it back and the waitress assured us she would inform the chef. The new dish came out and mine was slightly better while my wife’s was just as spicy. At that point we gave up as we did not want to wait for a replacement. The waitress was very embarrassed and apologetic. The rest of the meal was ok but I have had better food at a chain restaurant for less money. There was no reaction from a manager. I would have expected someone in management to at least come to our table and say something. Nothing was said or done and we were charged for everything including the dish my wife...

We had lunch here recently. We were expecting a great atmosphere, but we also had great service and good food.

The setting is intimate, with just a few tables set inside a Lanna Thai style room. The staff is well trained and very attentive.

The menu was very extensive for such a small place, with plenty of Thai and Western choices. The lamb curry was excellent, but very spicy (perhaps beyond the tolerance of non-Thais). The shrimp salad was excellent. The pasta as cooked slightly beyond al dente. This was the one disappointment in the meal. However, the coconut pie for dessert was, by far, the best we have ever had. We will return just for this.

We love this restaurant and recommend it to everyone! The staff are very kind. Friendly chat with guests. The recommended food and cocktails are good. The design of the restaurant is elegant. If you have a budget this is a great option.
