I never have publicly posted a negative review online - but both the food and service were just absolutely terrible I had to write to let others know this place is not worth a visit.
The dining experience focuses on the combination of local Thai ingredients and herbs into a visual presentation, each dish is depicted as a painting in the menu like an art gallery brochure. Yes, the decors and creativity were impressive and picturesque.
However the complexity of taste was merely overwhelming and there were too many elements in every dish which were not balancing nor harmonising into a distinct taste. The flavours were just all over the place. The whole experience was aesthetically satisfying, but did not please the palate. Out of the 22 course we had to skip more than 10 dishes. I guess ‘innovation’ and ‘experimental’ are two easy words to use as an excuse when things are simply not up to standard.
Unfortunately the food is not the only reason of our dissatisfaction. The course was indeed disappointing but I could easily accept this as an experience without being condemning of other’s view. The highlight was when the staff came and asked if there was ‘anything wrong’ since we were leaving some food behind. Because I didn’t want to comment too much, I simply said the spices and ingredients in some dishes were not suiting to our taste. I was surprised when she immediately asked back “do you want me to ask the kitchen to stop your course?”, while seemingly offended by my comment.
I still don’t see the point in her question - At that point we were not even close to the main course, and she further added whether we stop the course or not the bill will remain the same.
So why did she even ask such question? If you don’t like our food then just walk away and leave?
I was quite stunned at her question and attitude, and without giving me a chance to answer she then continued to say “well it is only a few dishes until your main course”, and walked off! I have visited 40+ michelin starred restaurants in my life and never have experienced such terrible guest service before.
Including 10% ‘service charge’, the dinner cost us around 7500++ THB per person which is equivalent to around $300 USD. This experience and the food cannot justify such exorbitant price.
Would only recommend to people who are willing to spend $$$ to take instagrammable food pics, but on a diet. There are so many other michelin starred restaurants in Bangkok which live up to...
Read moreOrdered the 6-course dinner. Over-rated (and therefore overpriced for the quality and the experience) and a disappointment. Experimental to the point of losing focus. Trying too hard? So many dishes had no balance, with either one ingredient or a sauce overwhelming the main highlight of the dish. In particular, tasted nothing but the sauce for pig’s head. Execution of the dishes were questionable. Sturgeon was overcooked, and likewise overwhelmed by all the toppings and sauce. Duck was a disappointment. My portion was slightly undercooked - hard to cut or chew through. My dinner date could not finish her potion and passed me hers. It was done just nice but lo and behold, there were sinews.
Good part of the dinner? The glass-canned sake. But realised that not much effort was needed from the restaurant. It just needed to be served chilled from the fridge and drunk from the can itself. The dessert was not bad but I suppose the supplier of the freeze-dried mangosteen deserved most of the credit. Oh, but I forgot the dessert was supposed to be about the purple yam and not the freeze-dried mangosteen! Anything else? Maybe the prettiness of the dishes - highly instagrammable I would say. But unfortunately that just raises the expectations of the taste, which are sadly not met.
I would have given 3 stars if this were not a 1 Michelin star restaurant, of which one would expect a better standard. Felt defrauded.
Tried a 2 Michelin star restaurant and a Michelin plate restaurant during this trip and they definitely lived up to their billing. Thanks to them they more than made up for this...

Walking into Canvas feels less like entering a restaurant and more like stepping into a surrealist dream—a portal to a world where art and cuisine collide. This was not just dinner; it was an extraordinary journey, akin to tumbling down the rabbit hole and finding Picasso himself at the stove.
The multi-course tasting menu was a symphony of flavors and textures that seemed to defy the laws of culinary physics. Each dish was a masterpiece, not only in taste but in presentation, with colors and forms that mirrored the artwork adorning the walls. The chef’s creative vision is beyond belief; he’s not just cooking food—he’s painting emotions on a plate. A dish of vibrant vegetables and delicate flowers felt like eating the essence of spring, while a dessert that danced between smoky and sweet tasted like the last notes of a jazz ballad at midnight.
The staff deserves their own spotlight. Sweet, attentive, and radiating warmth, they made us feel like the heroes of this whimsical story. Their knowledge of each dish and its inspiration added layers to the experience, like reading footnotes in an extraordinary novel.
By the time the meal ended, I felt like I’d traveled through Wonderland itself, led by the Mad Hatter of haute cuisine. This is not just a restaurant; it’s an artistic revolution. Canvas is a must-visit for anyone seeking to eat with their eyes, taste with their heart, and leave with their soul enriched.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If Picasso painted with flavors instead of oils, Canvas would be his greatest...
