The exterior of the shop make its somewhat unassuming. Initially I thought it was a desert shop Bean Ice until I realised its Baan ice. When you walk in, the interior is more welcoming.
Food wise, I really enjoyed the food there. The prices were really reasonable, I had a shrimp Tomyum soup, a tamarind nam prik ( veggie dip ), deep fried Garuda leaves with prawns, grilled pork neck, Grandpa’s Koo Yam ( mixed rice salad ) and 3 drinks. It came to about 1,300 baht. Well worth the price I would say. And the dishes were so flavourful!
One downer was though, Nam Prik being a dish that uses raw vegetables and sometimes raw prawns in the sauce, should be handled with more care. 2 out of 4 of my egg plants was rotten. I possibly ingested one to the horror of my parter and after faced with a series of protest from my digestive tract.
I did however enjoy the entire meal. The fact that I was probably the only tourist at that point of time. I always believe a shop full of locals is a good way to judge whether the food will possibly be good or not.
I would say, they didn’t disappoint and I would...
Read moreGreat place in Bangkok for Southern Thai food.
If you're into Thai food and can 'really' take spiciness then I recommend this place for you to try. (Although most of spicy food here are really spicy, but not as tormenting as eating at the real local places in the south, so you should be fine.)
Generous portion and can take big groups of customers.
In case you it's your first time and you have no idea what to order, here is my standard set to get you started. (You can just show the Thai name to your server, or if you would like to verify, ask for English menu and let him/her show you the items I recommended.)
Non-spicy (or just a little) หมูเค็มก้นครัว (Deep fried pork) ปลาทูทะเลใต้ (Mackerel in sweet and spicy soy sauce) ใบเหลียงผัดไข่ (Melinjo stir-fried with egg)
(Spicy) แกงส้มกุ้ง มะละกอ (Hot and sour "Gang-Som" soup with shrimps and papaya) or -แกงส้มหมูสามชั้น ผักกาดดอง (Hot and sour "Gang-Som" soup with pork and fermented Mustard Green)
(Suffering Spicy) แกงไตปลา ("Kaeng Tai Pla" fish curry) หมูสับคั่วกลิ้ง (Minced pork with...
Read moreThis place was highly recommended on opinionated about dining website. I probably must have taken the wrong dishes, for me. They have a very extensive menu and all the dishes are "recommended". The waitress was not very helpful, for somebody not very knowledgeable about Thai food. I told her mai-ao-pet (which means no spicy food) and I ordered the Coconut Milk Soup with Mackerel and Lotus Stems + Southern Market Fish Cakes, which seemed to me the safest choices. The soup was extremely spicy and I could eat only a couple of spoons. The fish cakes were less spicy, but I didn't like them that much. My recommendation is not to come here, if you can't handle VERY spicy food. One thing to add, the table next to mine had some food that smelled very nice. Again, maybe picking the right dishes this place might be good, it just...
