Mr. French — Restaurant in Khlong Tan Nuea Subdistrict

I was very pleased with the vibe, food special, and overall experience when visiting with my wife and two friends 16 Feb 2024. Mr. French offered a free flow steak and wine special for ฿1900++ per person. Included were an option of 6 sides to choose from, One option of house selected red wine and 4 cuts of beef ranging from Australian sirloin to Japanese Wagyu F1 ribeye( which is a crossbreed between Japanese Wagyu and American Black Angus). As a self proclaimed steak enthusiast… This was the ideal experience for me! The ambiance was above expectations as we were seated on the outside terrace by choice although the place was not crowded and we could have been seated anywhere we liked. The breeze on this warm day was very pleasant and complimented the decor in the most lovely way. This restaurant doesn’t advertise itself as a fine dining establishment, however, it shows remnants of fine dining throughout… only falling short I would say in the service department. In my opinion, 5 star customer service requires a more extensive training for staff members on menu items, wine/spirit pairing, serving technique, etc, which I’m not sure the ownership group is actively investing heavily in at this time. Nonetheless, with quality instruction from my wife on how we would like our experience curated, the staff was more than willing and able to appease. Maybe my wife could be the service Training Consultant for this establishment. I tried all 4 of the offered beef cut varieties and I think my favorite two were the Wagyu options, specifically the Australian Wagyu flank MB7, which I tried last of all. All cuts were seasoned to my liking and cooked medium as requested. Hats off to the chef on this day! The French bread with herbed butter was very fresh and delectable! I’m still thinking about it a day later as I love a good bread and butter. The creamed spinach was my favorite side dish. I like my sides a bit warm on arrival so that fell a bit short for whatever reason. Room temp would be a fair assessment. Regardless, I didn’t feel it was necessary to complain about that with the staff as they had been so pleasant throughout the evening after a few previous hiccups. Overall, I would love to revisit this restaurant to experience the same special which currently runs until the end of the month. First of all, the entire staff seemed to have missed this reservation ! I showed up at the restaurant, no one at the front, I had to walk inside to find waiters to tell them that I had reservation... Each waiter told me to wait and never came out... After the 4th one and I was getting really impatient. Then the 5th one said there's only seats at the bar and I nearly lost it. I made it clear that I made a reservation and it was for special birthday and how dare they didn't have a table for me... So they quickly assemble a table. The rest of the evening was a bismal. The manager (in red shirt different from all other waiters in black) personally took the order. But somehow screwed up. Only half of the orders came out correctly. I had to remind them 3 times what I ordered. After waiting for too long in between dishes, I had to walk to the kitchen and ask what was going on. Again, most waiters had no clue what was wrong. The manager said the seafood linguine was being prepared. If I didn't walk there to make a big fuss , I didn't know if my dishes were ever going to come out. In the end the manager had to give our wine top up as complimentary for such terrible service. Also even though the birthday cake took forever to come out (needed another reminder), the manager dared to tell me that normally they charge 2000 for the cake but it was free for me. In Bangkok no one ever charges for birthday cake, 99% of restaurants are great at attending to birthdays and special occasions. Nice atmosphere, Very Poor service, Food quality mediocre.

We went there on 25 Dec 2022 as a group of 15 persons to celebrate Christmas dinner together. We were told during the booking that there is minimum spending 2000 baht per head due to Christmas day, which they said there would be special shows and live music.

There were no special shows as informed and the live music was not pleasant. Vocal singer wasn’t very good and choices of music not related to Christmas at all.

Food taste is mediocre. Not awful but not impressive. Definitely not for this price. Foods were served in cold temperature as if it’s pre cooked or left too long before serving.

Water should be served immediately but it took very long time and we have to ask waiter to serve the water after sitting 30 minutes ( we already order bottles of water ).

Waiters although they are polite but they are not trained enough. They don’t know which customer order which dish and we have to keep asking around table who order this dish. Some dishes served to wrong person and left on the table for a long time. I had to help them ask around table and put the dish to the right person.
