As simple as it is sophisticated !!!
We have been a fan of Chef Sandro, not only his delightful cooking, but also the fine gentleman, and his passion & enthusiasm for everything he does, since his time @ Terra. Today we were privileged and enjoyed very much his Christmas set menu @ Latirra on the 8th floor of P23 on Sukhumvit 23. We had a feast; every dish was meticulously prepared by the Chef himself. While his dish may look simple, showcasing only the main ingredients, but the amalgamation of flavors of every mouthful were nothing less of pure joy and true Spanish sophistication.
A few excerpts from our conversation at the table: “His Escudella was one of the most impressive soup in my life.” “The Palamos prawn was very fresh & sweet; and the sauce was so good I can’t help using the bread to clean it all up.” “I know turkey is a big part of Christmas celebration, but generally I don’t care for the meat. Chef Sandro has proved me wrong because his turkey is so tender and moist with the foie gras and Bechamel stuffing. And the sauce is out of this world.” “Even though we are so full, but the tortilla we ordered extra was perfectly cooked, flavorful and worth very bite.” “His chocolate dessert is divine, his best dessert ever!” “Normally I don’t care for sweet, but this one is gone before I know it. Truly exceptional I don’t want it to come to an end.”
Even though you might not have a chance to try his Christmas menu this time, I would encourage you to try Latirra, either set or a la carte menu. I am positive Chef Sandro will...
Read moreYou must try Latirra! I’d give 10/5 if I could. The chef, Sandro is wonderful and his food is amazing!
We ordered olives for starters, very appetizing with their complimentary sous vide garlic spread. Their bread was just right and their olive oil was on point! Our mains were the fish of the day (sea-bass), octopus, and their squid ink seafood risotto. They recommended their gambas, but we shall save that for our next visit! All of the flavors are nicely balanced, clean. They also provide high quality table salt for those who prefer a bit more flavor. The seafood was vibrant and the portions were just right. The restaurant has limited seating so make sure to place a reservation.
The ambiance is cozy and Khun June, the host, is attentive and friendly. We finished our meal with a digestive (Pacharan) which was a lovely way to end the meal with a lovely conversation with Chef Sandro. With drinks (wine and apperol spritz) the bill came out to around 1,700 thb per person - great value for what you get! I look forward to my next meal here, truly a gem in Sukhumvit!
Plenty of parking in the building - the restaurant is located on...
Read moreWe had dinner at Latirra and overall it was a good experience. The atmosphere is casual but with a nice bistro feel, and the service was friendly and attentive.
We tried the Croquetas de Jamón, which were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, nicely presented with herbs and edible flowers. The Gambas al Ajillo came sizzling hot with plenty of garlic and oil, and the bread on the side was great for dipping. The highlight was definitely the Costella de Porc i Fideuà – a skillet of thin noodles cooked paella-style with Iberian pork ribs, chorizo, and vegetables. It had rich flavors, though the portion is quite generous and definitely made for sharing.
Drinks are also reasonably priced, with a good selection to pair with the food.
One thing to note is that they also offer a Formula Lunch Bistro Menu, which is good value with 2 courses at 690++ and 3 courses at 750++. It’s nice to see they have this option for daytime visits.
Overall, Latirra is a solid spot for Spanish food in Bangkok if you’re in the mood for tapas and...
