Just had a delicious meal here at Kodam Kitchen. It's hot at the moment so pick a table with a fan, and probably better during the day while there are less mosquitoes.
We ordered the beef massaman, chicken green curry and tom yum goong.
The beef massaman was among the best one I've ever had. Sweet in the southern style, but so rich, and with so many layers of flavour.
The chicken green curry was also beautiful, perfectly balanced with good heat, sharpness (from the kaffir lime) and richness.
The massaman and the curry were easy 10/10.
Unfortunately the tom yum goong was a bit of a fail. I think too much paste, and then undercooked, led to a thin but strong soup. Not our favourite. Next time, be sure to ask for the Thai version, not the farang version.
Thor and his staff were friendly, and the kitchen is situated under a stand of trees. Thor is the manager and really loves his Thai food. We talked for quite a while.
Prices are very good. The food is very authentic. This restaurant is well worth a visit.
We have since been back twice more.
A few days ago we tried the Tom Yum Goong Huang. It was really different, and won't be for every western palate, but in the end we loved it. The first taste was really, very strange. The second taste was, ok, I can see where this is coming from, and by the end it was super delicious. I think they use Thai curry powder in the cook, which really puts a twist on the dish. If you like trying new flavours, give it a go. It's really flavourful but not chilli hot. It's popular among the locals
We went back to KoDam for lunch today. We had a gorgeous deep fried snapper with spicy Thai salad on top (which is basically fried coconut flowers and deep fried lemongrass with palm sugar and coconut milk), and a sizzling seafood dish called Seafood Jarn Ron based on Thai chilli paste (not the hot one), and tomato. Both were sensational, easily 10/10.
For us, this is the best Thai food in Ao Nang, along with the Blue Marlin down at the Beach Rd. Thanks to Thor...
Read moreincredible and authenthic thai food. We loved it so much we repeatedly had lunch and dinner for several days on repeat during my 4 days stay at Krabi... enough said! It was an absolutely delightful experience from the moment me and my wife walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Their menu offers a fantastic variety of Thai dishes, each one more tempting than the last. We ordered different dishes each time, and all of them were bursting with fresh flavors and amazing tastes. You can not miss with any of their dishes... from classics such as Pad thai to different soups, curries... or the main course, The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced, with tender noodles, succulent shrimp, and a delightful mix of sweet, tangy, and savory notes. The massaman curry equally impressive, simply the best we have ever taken, with a rich and creamy coconut base that complemented the tender chicken and fresh vegetables beautifully... absolutely delicious. Their cooks are true masters of thai cuisine. The service was impeccable – attentive, friendly, and doing their very best always even on peak really busy times (they are super busy specially for dinners). Thor and his team were always top-notch. i also had the opportunity to meet the owner who honoured us cooking some special treat on thr spot, a genuine super friendly person as well. Overall, Kodam kitchen exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was incredibly tasty, the ambiance was lovely, and the service was top-notch. I can't wait to return to Krabi and keep exploring their delicious offerings. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy authentic and satisfying Thai dining...
Read moreKodam Kitchen in Krabi truly lives up to its legendary reputation, offering a phenomenal dining experience that combines affordability with high-quality, fresh food. During my visit, the restaurant was bustling yet the service was swift, with a well-organized seating area that efficiently accommodated the crowd. A standout feature was their whole fish, available in various styles for a flat rate of 290 THB each, which was exceptionally well-prepared and flavorful. We had it in the Thai style salad which was a fried fish dressed in aromatic like shallots and lemongrass and chillies, though it came with a base of coconut gravy which leaned a little on the richer side, the dish turned out very satisfying. The salt-fried pork and grilled prawns also left a lasting impression, perfectly cooked and seasoned to enhance their natural flavors. My only gripe was the fried rice which was quite lacking in wok flavour.
The ambiance of Kodam Kitchen adds to its allure, with tall ceilings in the main dining hut creating a spectacular dining environment that feels open and airy. Despite the restaurant's popularity and the long lines, the service was pleasant, although the younger staff could benefit from more training to match the overall high standards of the restaurant. The menu, full of impressive selections, is complemented by great prices, making Kodam Kitchen a must-visit for anyone in Krabi. I left with plans to return, already looking forward to another meal in this...
