Overall very nice place and great to see a high quality family owned venue expanding once again!
Food: On the upper end of local pricing but, as with their Krabi town branch, on point with value for money. Very good quality, beautifully well presented and relatively quick to come out. Pastries and desserts are well presented delicious treats too.
Drinks: As expected, the coffee is top rate. They offer you a selection of roasts and whenever I fancy a REALLY good coffee, I can always rely on Much & Mellow to please. Furthermore, if it is anything less than expected, they will always make a new one! (One of my Aussie friends calls it 'Melbourne Standard' which I believe is a huge compliment). Great range of smoothies, fruit fizz and unique 'non-coffee' cold drinks etc too.
It was very refreshing to see them serving cold drinks in GLASS glasses in house but I noticed the take out still served in plastic. Plastic straws are still used across the board too
Read moreDec. 2023: Started out strong earlier this year (see my previous review below), but has now turned lackluster. Cookies look good but are absurdly overpriced (like everything else), and dull in flavor. Tarts, puff pastries, savory meals: nothing tastes up to snuff, but rather cheap, as if corners have been cut with the recipes and ingredients. Coffee is good but no better than that. As for seating, the benches inside are very uncomfortable, and the tables wobble. To top everything off, the place charges a service fee of 7%. If you're reading this as a tourist visiting from a country where service fees are normal, please please please note that in Thailand, they are not, and 99.99% of the time you will not encounter them, and the price on the menu is the price you pay. Unfortunately, it appears there's a trend in Ao Nang to add service fees on top of already overpriced menu items, with Much & Mellow being a case in point. My advice: avoid places that charge a service fee.
Jul. 2023: Top-notch pastries and coffee, the best of both I've had in Krabi province (which includes Ao Nang). If ever I move to this part of Thailand, I'll be at Much & Mellow every week, if not every day. The espresso is perfect in taste and temperature, neither burning hot nor bitter nor sour, but just truly mellow. The croissants and derivatives are flaky and massive, justifying their price, which may be a bit high but not unreasonable, especially when you consider the quality. The chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu, and it shows. As for the atmosphere, I do love it, and only wish there were a table that could sit a large group of six or seven people so a couple of families could go there together. Maybe such a table exists there but I missed it. If so, I hope the management will correct...
Read moreWe walked past this restaurant a few times and finally decided to give it a try. I originally wanted the steak salad, but it was unfortunately unavailable, so I ordered the chicken schnitzel instead. My friend had the pork soup and the pork truffle burger. We also had some drinks, including an orange ginger fresh juice.
Positives: The soup was very flavorful and nicely seasoned, with a pleasant garlic kick. The burger was super juicy and really tasty, definitely a highlight!
Negatives: The chicken schnitzel was quite dry and came without a proper side, just a few green salad leaves. It definitely needed something like fries or potatoes, and a sauce to round it off. I ended up borrowing a few fries and some burger sauce, which helped a bit. The orange ginger juice was disappointing, too watery, and the ginger flavor was barely noticeable.
Service: The service staff gets 3 out of 5 stars. They weren’t unfriendly, but also not particularly attentive or welcoming. It felt like they didn’t really want to be at work that day. Especially when compared to the neighboring restaurant CRU, where the staff is always friendly, fast, and genuinely warm, the difference was noticeable.
Overall: Soup & Burger: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Schnitzel: ⭐⭐⭐ Juice: ⭐⭐ Service: ⭐⭐⭐ Overall rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4 out of 5)
Would come back again, especially for the burger, but there’s definitely room for...
