What an amazing place!
We had a chance to try their signature dishes, jjajang myeon, jjamppong and mul mandu and it was delicious! The restaurant is tucked away in the Ekkamai Horizon building with a simple yet modern design and giant chopsticks as the main feature of the restaurant. Very close to Ekkamai BTS. It is one of the best jjajang myeons I’ve had in a long time, reminding me of the flavors that you would find in Seoul or LA. A deep, rich black bean flavor with hints of pork and sautéed vegetables. Although a touch sweet for me but the flavors are intense (just the way it should be). Despite that, it was still one of the best jjajang myeon I’ve tried. The biggest surprise for me was the jjamppong. Wow! It was a huge surprise! Smokey, rich, almost “creamy” and full of flavor. Loaded with seafood, which transfers to the broth, and lots of vegetables. The portion sizes are huge and the noodles are exactly what you want in these dishes. Strong chewy noodles that you need to cut with scissors. The perfect compliment to jjajang myeon and jjamppong. The mul mando was served straight from the boiling water and wrapped tightly with none of them breaking. The strong seasoned pork flavors were so intense that you could taste it from the water. And talking with the owner after our meal, Dae Woo, you can tell that he cares so much about the consistency and quality of each dish.... since he cooks everything himself. I highly...
Read moreBangkok Banjom is the definition of a hidden gem in Bangkok. It’s literally hidden in some random building next to the Civic Hotel so it took a while to find the entrance.
My wife and I ordered a jjajangmyeon upsized and a plate of tang suyuk to share.
First thing to comment on is that the portions are HUGE. If you’re eating by yourself the upsize isn’t even necessary.
For me, the main thing that really sold the food was the quality of the noodles. They were chewy and bouncy with every bite, even when mixed thoroughly with the sauce.
Apart from this, the jjajang sauce was so generously filled with pork meat. It was very unlike other jjajangmyeons i have had whereby the sauce would be mainly potatoes with just a little bit of meat.
The tang su yuk was delicious as well - each slice was evenly battered with an amazing meat to batter ratio (it was mostly meat). The sauce was a good balance of sweet and tangy, and not to mention the generous portion size as well.
10/10 recommend to anyone going to Bangkok. If you didn’t like jjajangmyeon like myself, you will love the dish after...
Read moreNot recommended to go at 3pm because the resto closed from 3:30-5pm. I went at 3:05pm and rushed myself badly. The waitress get off from worked punctually. I had my leftover food packed and left at 3:35pm. Am not sure because I walked in late or not but the cashier seems cold.
Shrimp fried rice has nice aroma from the wok but tasteless and the shrimp is the cheap frozen type. I asked waitress if the combo comes with janjanmian. I misunderstood that it would come with noodle but its not. Another dish is lemon creme shrimp sauce. They use a better quality of shrimp and bigger size. Taste sweet but delish. Better eat fresh cook coz they r batter deep fried. It becomes socky if u pack home. Overall i prefer other dishes i...
