Subtitle: Bring back the Mexican buffet!

First time back in Bangkok for 4 years and I'd really been looking forward to the Tuesday night Mexican buffet this trip (I've been boring so many people by going on about how good it is)... only to discover that they've stopped it! It was epic with absolutely everything you could want - fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas in every meat variation, all the sauces and all kinds of great puddings to boot (I especially loved the bread and butter pudding with all the home made sauce options).

Disappointed but still determined to order Mexican/Tex Mex food, me and the kids ordered quesadillas, enchiladas and nachos, along with pork chops and various drinks.

Quesadillas went down very well with all of us, chicken nachos not so much (kids a bit fussy, I think). For me the enchiladas in the buffet were better than the menu ones because they were spicier with the special sauce. These ones were more bland. The kids couldn't finish the pork chops, which like another reviewer, I thought were a bit dry, and they complained that their drinks were too sweet (though, to be fair, they seemed ok to me).

Too full to have pudding, sadly.

I do hope they bring back the buffet. Apart from being great value, it does really help with fussy kids because you don't have to worry about ordering something that they won't like. And they don't either. In a buffet they can try it all and always find some options (so they'll be more adventurous too. I doubt they'd have played safe choosing pork chops in a buffet).

Perhaps it's a temporary decision and they'll resume it when more tourists come back, in which case I've just been unlucky. Another possibility is that it was a loss leader that was only worthwhile when people order enough drinks on the side and many people aren't drinking as much as they used to, I guess?

Feel strange giving 3 stars because I've had so many meals at Bourbon Street over the years - both Mexican buffet nights and a la carte Cajun food - and they've all been 5 out of 5 up to now. If you averaged all of those with today's 3, the score would...

I stayed here 7 nights and ate in the restaurant 3 times. In a sentence, the value you receive is excellent.

Hotel: The location and high service for cost is remarkable. Daily room service is a thing of the past at most hotels these days but is still included here. Yes the rooms are starting to show their age a little but again, for the cost they are quite excellent. There's a surprisingly large amount of staff that seem very happy. The hot water was a little tricky to get right (have to use full pressure hot side for the inline heater to activate, then try to turn the handle to the middle for some cold water to mix in, but not too cool because then the water heater deactivates, also then the shower drain will start to flood because of the slow drain, so I would start then turn off water to soap up, then turn on to rinse, which in hindsight is probably better water conservation), no big deal once I found out a system to use it. Theres the BTS nearby, gateway, medical complex, 24hr mart (maxvalue), a local food market on the corner, laundry next door, etc.

Restaurant: Very good food, actually very good. Forgot I was eating in Thailand and not america. The wings were good and the popcorn shrimp too, as was the breakfast french toast. Better than Perkins. The nachos were good too and each chip was cheesed and meated up. The drink menu is large. Also had curry from the Thai menu and it was good. I'm not bothered by the service charge, as it's customary where I come from and considering the local wages I am happy to help support the people.

Would return for sure. Everyone's happy here and it shows. I wish I could stay and eat and try more. Despite wanting to eat more local cuisine, it's sure nice to have...

I booked for 6 nights, I was put in another building on the side street on the 4th floor room 408, on the 5th floor above, it seems there are local workers, they move their furniture (probably the chairs) all day and night until 3 a.m. Sometimes you can even hear them screaming from the 4th floor to the 5th floor because someone constantly leave the stair door wide open even though I go to close it every time. it's very noisy. Also I booked a "Deluxe room" but according to the booking platforms photos, the room 408 is seemingly the smaller/cheaper room AKA "Standard room". I was asked to wait until the fourth night to move into a room in the original/main building where the restaurant is located. After reading all the glowing reviews on booking platforms, I really wasn't expecting that. BTW, all TV channels are in Thai language. Not worth the price at all. It's not the fault of the poor workers who live on the 5th floor, but the poorly insulated rooms on the 4th floor should not be rented, at least not at that price. BTW, Don't trust Agoda, they won't help you, they sided with the hotel even though I hadn't violated any rules and was within my rights. Also Agoda strangely censored my review on its platform. And above all the hotel and Agoda arranged between themselves to cancel my reservation after the first night without even contacting me and so that the hotel could kick me out because of this review on Google. I had to manage on my own to find a new hotel even though it's Songkran holidays and all the hotels in the surrounding area are full. Good...

Classic Cajun Delights. Went with a group of friends for dinner (with small kids) and had a great time. The food was good, price was fair, and the kids really enjoyed the large fish tank! On weekends, they have a kids eat free special (1 kids menu/kid for every 350+ main dish ordered). We enjoyed the blooming onions, popcorn shrimp, commander salad, a full rack of ribs (slightly dry for my tastes), jambalaya (nice Cajun kick), blackened fish (recommended!), lemon tart (so so) and the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream (crowd favorite). The kids enjoyed their spaghetti (a bit messily) and the adults ended up with the kids chicken nugget (which was more of a chicken cutlet). Recommended for small/large groups. They also have various promotions on weekdays, buffets on certain days, as well as holiday specials. In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant feels quite cozy. Established in 1986 (according to their website), they’ve maintained the restaurant, food and staff quite well! And remains pretty much the same as I remembered coming to many years before as a kid.

A little bit of New Orleans in Bangkok. They have the classic Gumbo, served with a bit of rice inside, the Jambalaya (seafood and chicken), and other Cajun dishes. Other American favourites are also available such as hearty steaks with gravy and burgers. Gumbo was nice and thick, also served with corn bread that was flavourful, crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Smoked ribs was slightly on the dry side, saved only by slathering on bbq sauce. Crab cakes are served with garlic mashed potato which was packed with flavour, but texture was a little on the dry side. Oysters were big and juicy and tasted fresh, either served “thai-style” (with spicy sauce and fried shallots) or “traditional” with red vinaigrette. However, don’t go for the oyster shooters if you were expecting a prairie oyster-style shot with Worcester sauce and tabasco. -Limited parking (maybe 4-5 spaces) -750 baht per head (no alcohol) -Best dishes: Seafood Gumbo, Oysters
