I was very disappointed during my visit here for dinner a few weekends ago. I brought someone here for their birthday dinner, walking up the stairs was terrible as it smelled like sewage. We started off by ordering the Tuna Tostada which was decent, as well as the Burrata. The Burrata came and it was rock hard, when cut, it was very hard and was not soft as usual Burrata is. When we asked the waitress to check with the chef; the chefs response was that it was perfectly fine and normal. I’ve never eaten hard Burrata before so not sure if this is a Basque style. We ordered a special which was mushroom carpaccio; the dish was basically sliced mushrooms doused in vinegar, it was so sour and was basically inedible. We let the waitress know as well, but of course the chef thought it was fine, but we sent it back regardless. We ordered the bikini iberico which was good as it’s cheese with fried bread and ham, and then we had a slice of cake for dessert which was quite disappointing as well. It’s such a shame as I was hoping it would be a good experience given that there aren’t many fabulous tapas places in Bangkok but I was incredibly disappointed and the prices definitely do not match the food quality...
Read moreMy partner and I visited El Willy on a weeknight - reservation made via line so nice and easy. Was surprised by the number of serving staff to covers. Wasn't aware of the option for "chefs table" style dining when booked as not mentioned on the website/social media - would have quite liked the option.
We chose the 3000 THB chef's menu with the 1200 THB wine flight. Unfortunately we both felt that the overall experience did not match the price point which rivals, if not exceeds, many other fine dining restaurants in Bangkok. The food was tasty. Plates came out in quick succession and we felt rushed. We also felt that there wasn't much thought into the order of the dishes presented. The wines were certainly not matched to the dishes as they just replaced the glasses when empty, and when asked what each wine was they pointed to the "wine by the glass" list.
Maybe the a la carte menu would be better value, but I wouldn't recommend the chefs menu & wine flight combination. Maybe they're still getting into the groove as a restaurant, but I...
Read moreThe food is tasty, the service is good, so is the atmosphere. But to justify their higher price point, they’re missing some authenticity: We ordered Paella which they mentioned would take about half an hour, which is OK at least then you know it’s freshly made, but in the meantime, we asked for some bread snacks which they brought. I had a feeling something would be off so I asked for additional olive oil to the bread. I should’ve asked for some salt and pepper as well because they didn’t bring these.
These are quick things to improve that increase authenticity. It might also be that Thais don’t like bread and olive oil and salt and pepper. For southern Europeans, it’s very standard though. And small details like that help justify higher price points because they give a more authentic experience. So overall, ⭐️⭐️⭐️ as theymeet expectations. Minor tweaks can help turn this into a really good experience!!
I also really like how they basically turned a residential house into a restaurant, that helps give it a small and...
