Wow first time there and was super surprised i would like it. Was recommended by thai language teacher because i asked him if he knew a place that served good khao soi. So I already knew what I wanted and the lady took me request and I sat down and grabbed a bottle of chang and bottle of water while waiting for my khao soi. When I ordered i asked her to make it spicy but she said the condiments were already on the table. When my bowl came out I will admit it seems like a rather small bowl. The taste had a little sweetness, balanced flavors of salt and ok spice, and a somewhat thin broth. I got the khao soi beef and the beef was thinly sliced and just ok if im being honest. After I added more table chili oil and a splash of fish sauce the flavor turned out amazing. If I am nitpicking I would prefer a slightly bigger bowl, better cuts of beef, and thicker broth.
Total was 230 baht. I will be back because I also want to try their green curry as well as go back for the khao soi beef.
So i went back on 14 may 2025 to get the green curry but they didn't have any so elected for khao soi beef again. It was actually better this time because the beef was actually tender compared to the 1st time. The broth also seemed a little bit thicker and I used about the same amount of chili oil. Today was solid 4.5 out of 5 in flavors and the meats being tender. Now if they can give a bigger bowl because 150 total with bottle of water seems up there for the amount given. I'll still be back though.
so i went back after over a month and had khao soi again and it was as good as the last one they made. this time the bowl seemed a little bit bigger and quite possibly had a little more food than the last time i had. what i noticed is when i mix everything together i didnt have to carefully mix so things would not spill over the bowl.
Went back on 15 July 2025. Got khao soi again. Taste exactly the same as the 1st time I came. Of course I need to add more chili oil but I can handle...

Read moreIn my humble opinion, Hom Duan offers by far the best sampling of Northern Thai dishes in Bangkok. It is a comfortable, unpretentious restaurant that is a bit hidden away off Soi 63, behind the Ekkamai Beer House. There is a wide selection of prepared dishes behind a glass counter /shield after you enter the restaurant along with a large photo menu of all the dishes. Just point directly at the dish or at the menu to a server behind the counter to place your order and then find a seat at one of the numerous tables. Your order will be assembled and promptly brought to where you are sitting.
Different colored plastic chips are used to keep track of what you ordered. They are delivered to with your meal. And they are used to calculate your total bill at the cashier.
The foods are fresh and very flavorful. They are so reasonably priced that your table can order and share several different dishes without putting much of a dent in your wallet. Water and ice are provided for free but there is also a good selection of beers and other beverages available. I have visited Hom Duan on several occasions and although it does good business during the lunch and dinner time hours, I have never had a problem finding a comfortable...
