It’s not my habit to badmouth a restaurant , but this place was wrong on so many levels.
It has the appearance of a small mom and pop Thai-owned place on a side street, which is right up our alley. So we ordered two ordinary Thai dishes and a side of vegetables.
Radio silence for over 30 minutes, and there was only one other couple at another table in the entire place, so I asked the waitress how things were going.
An older ex-pat, who was smoking and boozing with peers, interceded to inform me that the reviews for HIS restaurant explain how it can take much longer for food to be served here than any other restaurant in Thailand.
Great, but we didn’t read the reviews. How should we know this? The owner continues to expound on how the food for the couple before us has to be completed before they can start on ours. Really? If there were 6 people ahead of us, rather than 2, we could expect to wait 2-3 hours for our food?
As I’m diabetic, and had already given myself insulin, my meter had begun to beep, showing that my blood sugar was falling precipitously. I bought half a pineapple from a passing street vendor to keep myself going.
I’m glad I did. The food began to show up at our table over an hour and ten minutes after we ordered.
It was good and well prepared, but hard to stomach given the defensive and pissy attitudes of the waitress and the owner.
Particularly unappealing was having to eat while the owner and his friends communicated among themselves in racist tropes and other ex-pat blather about how you give a Thai person $1000 baht and they’ll never save it but blow it all immediately, and that you have to monitor them “all the time” if you don’t want any problems. There was also talk about bar girls and how you shouldn’t tip Thai staff because they make too much money from all the tips they get.
This was our worst experience in Thailand. Caveat emptor.

This is an update to my original review to take into account the owner’s response:
There absolutely was only one other couple in your restaurant. They were sitting inside, and that’s where I came to because your waitress never checked in with us and I wanted to know about the status of our order. That was a solid 45 minutes after the order had been placed.
I never called you a racist, nor did I suggest that you are against tipping, or shouldn’t be able to smoke or drink.
But the comments I posted are verbatim summations of the conversation we were forced to listen to by both you and your friends — only five feet away from us. And the smoking and drinking, while it is indeed your prerogative, it may not be the wish of other customers like ourselves, to eat outside (in your apparent “smoking area”).
And I took your advice and looked over some of the other reviews. A number of people do mention the tardiness in food preparation, and that like us it was over an hour wait. Since this is an obvious issue with your establishment, perhaps a sign noting that most food won’t be ready for an hour or more would eliminate customer concerns. Without prejudice, I can state that we would’ve gone to another establishment had...
Read moreThis is a quaint, small family-run restaurant that serves a nice selection of both Thai and Western food. I had a chicken coconut milk soup and club sandwich with chips. Both items were prepared to order and tasted delicious. The service staff was courteous, professional and English-speaking. In particular, the co-owner Peter was hospitable and gracious. There is seating available both indoors and outdoors. The portion sizes of my orders were generous and the price was very reasonable. The restaurant has a cosy, comfortable and casual ambiance. I highly recommend this establishment to those that enjoy high quality made to order food served by friendly staff in a...
Read moreIntrigued by the outstanding reviews decided to give this place a try and was not disappointed. It is a simple “hole in the wall” sort of place with a nice vibe to it. Service is great. While sipping a nice cold Leo (or what you fancy) your choice of meal is freshly prepared - this is true home-style cooking - and the flavours speak for themselves. The Massaman (Chicken) curry which I had tonight was simply divine. My summary - if you want 5 star elegant dining this is not for you - if you want casual home cooked deliciousness with a family touch to it - look no...
