The Standard Hua Hin is a super cool, quirky ocean-front boutique design hotel that is much more than the name suggests.
Grounds & Design – An aura of chic modernity enchants every nook and corner of this vibrant seaside boutique. The check-in areas offer some comfortable chairs where you can chill over some complimentary cooling refreshments. As seen throughout the property, there is a love for retro, checkered patterns in their design elements. It is clear that the architects and designers have something quirky in them. From what I heard from Khun Rachel at the pool bar, the floors surrounding the swimming pool was hand painted by a New York artist! Khun Rachel made our stay more fun and memorable thanks to her unique personality. Other unique elements include a very funky looking slide, some confusing golfing activities which I never really understood. But I guess, this is the point! As you’re walking around, you may even hear some funky tunes from hidden speakers in the bushes surrounding the property. This may put a groove to your step. For a seaside resort, the surrounding lush gardens and massive trees are very refreshing to see.
Our Suite – We stayed in Superior Suite King (Room Number: 601). If possible, try to book this room because it is located on the highest floor with a glimpse of the ocean from the massive balcony. This suite features a king-sized bed, an awesome living area, working desk, a cool counter bar and a large bathroom. The balcony needs more a mention as they provide some chill chair and 2 attached rocking chairs. They “rock” and adds a certain dynamism to your experience while we basked in the glory of the dreamscape. Super chill. The bathroom featured a rain shower and glitzed-out disco ball suspended above a soak tub. The water pressure was excellent and temperatures were consistent. Everything in the room screams quality and well thought of design. We especially enjoyed the ‘screen mirroring’ option on the smart TV’s to watch Netflix from our phones! Wifi speeds were good with no issues on connectivity. The portable Bluetooth speakers in the suite were also a welcomed amenity. I believe they were Ultimate Ears.
Pool Bar – The vibes in this area of the facilities are second to none in any hotel we have visited. From the funky yellow chairs and umbrellas, to the cool outfits of servers, and a super unique pool design. We noticed that the swimming pool has multiple layers which you could sit, unwind and even enjoy cool conversations with guests staying at the hotel. The sound system surrounding the pools were excellent and they even played some reggaetón at times. Party vibes. It was also interesting to see some hotel guests with perfectly groomed dogs which were generally quite well behaved.
The Standard Spa – We opted for the “Three Layers” in which the very professional masseuse uses three layers of oils to marinate you. Joke. Put simply, this takes an aroma massage to the next level. Safe to say, we lost track of time and knocked off! Special mentions to Khun Maew and Khun Nong for an incredible spa experience with their expert skills. We will definitely come back for the spa next time when we visit Hua Hin.
Breakfast & Juice Café – Served at Lido restaurant, the breakfast at the hotel was standard. While it may not have offered a wide array of options, the overall quality was high. We enjoyed have the option of eggs benedict, some crispy waffles and cold-press juices. We would like to give a special mention for Khun A (the person with the super red hair who can be spotted from a mile away!). We also made the most of Juice Café on a super-hot day. Their watermelon smoothly was super cool and refreshing.
Lastly, if it was not for the quirky staff at this hotel it could not have brought out the vibes that we so thoroughly enjoyed. If you’re looking for a chain resort experience, this is not the right...
Read moreThis hotel have a really nice and stylish design, the a**osphere here was chic and cool , I went during early Feb 2024 , I believe the hotel wasn’t at its full occupancy. First of all we arrived the hotel around 6pm, the reception staff looks like not welcoming us already (maybe too tired or what I dunno), when I asked them were the 2 restaurants still have availability for tonight, they directly told me it’s fully booked, and asked me to try to go after 8:30pm, well okay then we try restaurants outside. After all checkin procedures, a staff lead us to the hotel room with our room key. Unfortunately the reception gave a wrong room key and room number to us, the staff opened a room that have guests inside, that is totally unacceptable for a 5 stars resort. And the staff feel very sorry and called back the reception, sounds like that often did that, and we wait at the corridor for the staff to bring us back a new room key. So the staff got the new room key and introduced us back the hotel facilities, and that’s all without any more apologies. Which I can feel they always did wrong room to guests. Well that’s so called one of the best 10 five stars luxury resort in Hua Hin. I believe the hotel inspector need to rethink this. Secondly, as the hotel definitely not providing a well service, thai noodles with soup is a very popular breakfast dish in many of the Thailand hotels, but was my first time to see 3 boiling pots as a noodle station without any staff helping you to cook, as a family friendly resort that is definitely dangerous for kids already and not all people know how to cook noodles with soup. Why I say so, because some people really put the noodles in the water and went away, and all the noodles is broken which the next guest cannot make their noodles. To me this a not fun at all, maybe for some teenagers kids it’s fun. Thirdly, for the restaurants which the reception staff told us it’s fully when we arrive at 6pm, after we settle out luggages, we have walked around the hotel at around 7pm, we just try a chance to ask if the restaurant have tables available, well the restaurant staff didn’t even check the reservation list and directly bring us to some tables for us to choose, so that’s mean the reception and restaurants don’t have any communications at all, or the reception was just lazy to make a phone call to the restaurants to check the availability? Fourthly, came to the check out day, we did all the check-out procedures and gave us back the deposit. So that’s mean everything was fine. That time we were carrying 4 luggages and 2 hand carry, no one offer us do we need to keep our luggages or you will leave the hotel right now? So we just carry back our luggages and take a sit opposite the reception to wait our driver to arrive. What a kind of good service they have , I have been to many 4 or 5 stars hotel or resort, always have reception staff asked us do we need to keep your luggages or the bell boy standing there to serve the check out guests. But The Standard Hua Hin don’t ever expect this service after check out. Last but not least, I thought our “not so good” experience was over, suddenly a staff come to me while we are waiting the driver at the chair. A staff asked me is it have used their laundry service? Then I said no I didn’t, the staff asked me is it you get our laundry bag? I said yes coz I have some dirty swimming clothes I used it , then she told me the laundry bag need to charge me...
