I’m writing this review as a serious warning to other diners. My girlfriend and I visited Ko Ang Seafood Restaurant in Phuket just a few days ago, and the experience turned into a medical emergency.
She ordered the horseshoe crab, and within 24 hours she experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea. That alone would be concerning, but the situation escalated dangerously. She began experiencing symptoms consistent with neurotoxin poisoning – her fingers swelled, went numb, and became extremely painful. We had to seek urgent medical care, and doctors advised us that the food may have caused kidney complications as a result of potential toxicity from what she ate.
This is not just food poisoning – this was life-threatening. After researching more, we discovered that horseshoe crab poisoning is a documented and very serious risk, and should never be served without rigorous safety protocols. Ko Ang failed this responsibility.
To make matters worse: • Dogs were seen running around the kitchen area, completely unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one that allegedly holds Michelin recognition. • The food itself was overrated and not worth the hype. Poor flavor, inconsistent freshness, and unsafe practices.
This place is dangerous, not just disappointing. We strongly urge all travelers and diners to avoid eating here, especially the horseshoe crab and any raw or specialty seafood.
Ko Ang Seafood should be reassessed by Michelin inspectors immediately. Cleanliness and food safety are non-negotiable, and this establishment fell drastically short of even basic...
Read moreI don’t usually leave reviews, but I feel a responsibility to warn others after what I experienced at Ko Ang Seafood in Phuket.
I ate here three days ago with my boyfriend. I ordered the horseshoe crab, trusting that a restaurant with Michelin recognition would follow proper food safety protocols. Unfortunately, I ended up getting severely ill from what I now believe was neurotoxin poisoning.
The next day, I experienced intense vomiting and diarrhea, followed by swelling, numbness, and pain in my fingers and hands. The symptoms were frightening and kept worsening. I had to visit a doctor twice, and the medical staff expressed serious concern about possible kidney involvement and neurotoxin effects.
Because of this, I’ve had to miss work, and my recovery is still ongoing. This wasn’t a simple upset stomach—this was a serious medical incident that completely disrupted my health and travel plans.
On top of that, we saw dogs roaming around the kitchen, which made me question how this place could possibly qualify for any kind of Michelin recognition. It was unsanitary, and in hindsight, it makes sense that the food would be unsafe. The dishes themselves were disappointing, overpriced, and certainly not up to any high culinary standard.
This experience has left me shaken and frustrated. I strongly advise anyone considering this restaurant to rethink your plans, and absolutely do not order the horseshoe crab. Ko Ang Seafood is not safe, and the authorities — including Michelin inspectors — need to take a...
Read moreI am not sure what to say. It used to be great; now average. A famous place in Phuket...(where I have lived a long time.) Food is fine. Will usually be busy. Service....poor.....bad; we saw an old Thai couple wait eternally (and 'greang jai') just to pay the bill. We got there just after opening time, got squeezed in, ordered and waited.....waited....watched others who came after us served first. We got some rice and 'hor mok'...waited...waited....and just got ignored. It's not easy running a busy kitchen (having done it - wary of sounding pompous), but the lack of customer service and reasons given for it made no sense (even my Thai friends were starting to lose their usual jai yen.) And we called the resto before going to enquire. Plus, we got short-changed when paying and had to ask to get that back. So, the food there is fine......although not fantastic, and the fish on view outside did not look very fresh. In addition, they used to have tables outside, but they have now gone. Sad to say we won't...
