A friend has lived on Phuket for many years and scouted out various places for us before our arrival. He then took us to The Angel and we all fell in love with the place at first sight and booked a week's holiday with the owner (more about him later). When you walk in (as you'll see from the photos), the whole garden is laid out with walkways to the various bungalows like some kind of maze. ||||Our first night there was broken by the sound of dogs fighting and we woke up in the morning thinking "That's it, we're outta here". And then came breakfast (included in the price) ..... Doesn't matter whether you're sitting on your terrace outside the bedroom or in the chairs by the pool, wherever you are is where they'll serve you. The owner came and asked us what we wanted for breakfast. For some reason, I had a hankering for fried rice. He apologized that they didn't have it, but promised I could get it next day. Instead we got fresh fruit, orange juice, good coffee, toast and a DAMNED tasty cheese/vegetable omelet. (and you know what, the next day they HAD prepared fried rice, just for me. Now THAT'S service)||||The bungalows themselves are fine (a 3 out of 5) with REALLY quirky bathrooms. (For example, the lighting is poor, which meant that if I wanted to wet shave myself in the evening, the light was so weak and badly placed that my right side was in constant shadow. Not a problem, I shaved in the morning instead). The mirror behind the wash basin is low, so I also ended up shaving sitting on one of the terrace chairs !!! But you know what, it was all part of the charm of the place and didn't bother me at all. ||||Going back to the owner. One day, we were on our way to the beach and noticed what turned out to be sugar cane in the "reception". We chatted with the owner about this, asking him various questions. When we got back from the beach in the afternoon, he'd stripped and prepared bits of it and then showed us how to eat it (okay, not my favorite gastronomic experience). NOTHING was too much trouble for him, he gets 6 out of 5 for personality, friendliness and charm. We also booked him to take us to the airport on our last day. This was no problem even though we needed to leave at 05:15.||||I mentioned in the title that this is a difficult place to rate. The reason for this is that it SEEMS to be going to the dogs (no pun intended from earlier). Like so many Thai hotels, they build them and then seldom seem to maintain them. Things start breaking and don't get fixed (or get fixed in a lackadaisical manner). We REALLY enjoyed our stay here, but I think I would suggest to anyone else that they ask to look at the rooms first before confirming any bookings. I'm also not sure whether I would want to stay more than one week in NaiThon anyway. You have a wonderful beach with a number of beach restaurants, and then you have ....... not much else. There is a small "supermarket" with VASTLY inflated prices (compared to Kamala), but then they know they've got you over a barrel.||||At the end of the day, if you want to get away from the sterile, anonymous mass hotels and find somewhere with charm (and quirks), then this is the...
Read moreWe dined here numerous times, tried several dishes, and always enjoyed our experience. Lovely staff, good food, good music and happy customers. Highlights on the menu for us were the seafood pizza and t-bone steak, you need to try them. Their fries are also very good here. A couple of suggestions for management. The ham and cheese crepes are too small, especially at 180 baht, make them bigger or reduce the price, they are almost bite size! Get the brown bread in. Twice we wanted to have borscht soup but no brown bread so we passed. And lastly ice cream. We love ice cream, please put it on the menu! We highly recommend Steak House. Make sure you visit at least once when in Naiyang, you won't be...
