The best drinks in the world mean nothing if the customer service is bad. We walked up and asked to go up to Opium (it's inside a newly minutes Michelin Stared restaurant) and told that it would be about 15 min to wait for the elevator, so we were seated downstairs with a menu. A few minutes later we were offered to take the stairs, which we happily accepted. It was actually a lot of fun seeing the five different levels, including the tiny kitchen. We were told we could sit out on the balcony, which was lovely. It's quiet with fans to stay cool, and a nice view of downtown. We quickly ordered our first drinks, and after about 5-10 min they arrived. Fantastic. We loved both drinks. Super well made, unique flavors, well balanced. The table snacks have the flavors of northern Thailand; lovely. After a while, someone came to fill our waters. A bit later we finished our drinks and looked at what to order next. Then we waited. And waited. We didn't really notice for a while, but after about an hour I started asking my wife if I'm missing something. Usually in Thailand you just order with anyone who walks by. Being outside, we didn't get anyone coming to check on us. Our original "waiter" just disappeared after going over the menu and bringing our first drinks. Even one of the managers, or an owner came out to show off the restaurant to someone traveling and made no notice of our empty glasses and annoyed expressions. Finally, someone came out to fill our waters, so we asked to move inside (there were two open tables and about 4-5 open bar seats). They needed to go check the reservations and came back to tell us we would need to leave in 40 min if we went inside. I said no, waited another 10 min for our waiter, gave up and went to the bar to pay directly. 1050 Baht for two drinks. We went to go downstairs and they had a gate blocking the stairs and were told to wait for the lift. My wife finally asked in Thai if we could just walk down and they happily let us. Sigh. We didn't know about the restaurant and really wanted to go this week after seeing it on our way up. But just too many things annoyed us to ever...

🍸 Our final stop of the day was at the Opium Bar, hidden within the one-Michelin-starred Restaurant Potong. As soon as we walked in, we were captivated by the luxurious yet mysterious ambiance that perfectly combines old-world charm with modern sophistication. Located on the fourth and fifth floors of the building, this speakeasy is truly a secret gem in Bangkok’s vibrant Chinatown.
🍹 The drinks at Opium Bar are nothing short of extraordinary. We tried a couple of their signature cocktails, each crafted with such creativity and precision that they could easily be considered works of art. The mixologists here are masters of “Liquid Surreality,” blending flavors and ingredients in unexpected ways to create unique and memorable drinks. One of the highlights was the “Opium Fashion,” a bold and sophisticated cocktail that left us wanting more.
🎶 The atmosphere is intimate and inviting, with gold foil orchids dancing across black lacquer walls, creating an environment that feels both luxurious and cozy. The bar also offers a rooftop area, providing a breathtaking view of the city—a perfect backdrop for enjoying one last drink before the night ends. The music here transitions from smooth jazz to more upbeat funk and electronic beats as the night progresses, making it an ideal spot for a late-night soiree.
🌆 If you’re looking for a place that offers not just drinks, but an experience, Opium Bar is a must-visit. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a beautifully crafted cocktail in a setting that feels both exclusive and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our...
Read moreWe reserved Opium bar because we could not get a table at the restaurant in the hope to get a glimpse of the concept of the head chef.
The atmosphere is nice with great decoration, lighting and music. Bottles on display are a good selection but you necessarily special.
We were lucky to come on a night where a guest mixologist was there. His cocktails were great and showed us flavours that we were not familiar with. He even had time for a friendly chat as we sat at the bar.
Overall we were very disappointed with the service. When we arrived we were greeting by the hostess who was friendly and professional. Unfortunately this is where the good service stopped. In the bar we waited 20mins before we were able to place the order and during this time other tables that arrived later were already served. To make matters worse she was confused if we had placed an order or not. For such a small bar, and attached to a Michelin restaurant, it is not the type of professionalism you would expect. On top of that, while we were waiting to order, the bar manager was very busy with social media operation and recording guests without their permission and posing with the mixologists.
Last but not least we never had our water or peanuts refilled.
This was very disappointing and we decided to leave after...
