Back in Bangkok (after 1 year!) and headed straight over to explore the hip & happening Song Wat Road on a hot, humid Saturday afternoon ❣️🛺❣️
Saw a long queue (which in the universe of queue = damn good food 🏆) in front of this little eatery in the wall helmed by local Chinese Thai which we thought was selling braised duck 🦆.
Saw a 'Sold Out' sign flipped up at the counter once the front few people in the queue got their seats (which there was not more than 8 tables at this petite eatery).
We sadly left to look for other food in the neighborhood.
Funnily when we walked by after an hour or so, the 'Sold Out' sign was gone & a new queue was in line again! We quickly took a number - 37 (written by hand on yellow paper pad next to their counter) & rejoined the queue (mainly locals Thai) & after 10mins or do, we successfully got a table! 🥳
When we saw finally their menu, we then realised this is a braised Goose eatery stall ...🤣 My absolute fav!!! 💛🪿🪿🪿💛
Ordered their medium serving, 2 rice & a soup for our entourage of 3. While we waited for the chopped goose, complimentary ice cold chinese tea (with big chunky ice cubes) in small glasses were served which was such a welcome thirst quenching drink on a hot summery afternoon 🤩
Our orders came swiftly and boy were we glad we followed our radar to join this queue of locals!
The de-boned braised goose was juicy, tender, flavorfully braised & soooooo delicious 😋😋😋 The limey 🌶️ chilli sauce added an extra punch to the braised goose which we proceeded to ravish in delight.
The simple pork paste 🐷 soup filled to the brim with coriander was also tasty & super comforting (just like home cooked soups) 💛💛💛
As we enjoyed our goose lunch, new customers kept coming but were turned away once their 2nd batch of goose were gone & their 'Sold Out' sign was up again .
So happy we accidentally stumbled by this area to have had such a lovely braised goose lunch (which was totally a random hit) 😋😋😋 in Song Wat.
Highly recommended to all who love goose to head over to Urai Braised Goose while in Song Wat area to try their yummlicious braised goose...
Read moreI usually don’t post unless it is really BAD or super good. My wife and I are on a short visit to Bangkok and we decide to visit Chinatown and eat at this rather horrible establishment because it was posted on Instragram. Boy were we totally and utterly upset to say the list. First and foremost there is no system and people were given a piece of paper with written numbers on it. Mine was 41 and there were people with number like single digit with and no indication of how far more before your number is called. So we decide to wait but it seems like there is no system. We went for a walk about 15 mins for a drink nearby and when we came back I saw the same foreigner lady with a number 29 piece of paper in her hand. I decide to approach the owners as the service staff and you have to remember so much is said about the Thai service with a smile that’s was total crap in this place they brushed off my wife and I decided to see the owner who was busy chopping away the goose and probably in his mind count the money he is making today. The other owner who was servicing food a mid age Chinese guy so I decide to say to him in Teochew which is my native dialect and to my surprise he roughly says - wait out there. So what is the point of giving them Michelin when all they are at street food with a bloody attitude. Please come to Singapore for street food as our Hawker Chan at Chinatown has far better attitude then this crap they are serving. I will be writing to Michelin guide about them as there points given to earn their stars. So PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE until you want to wait for hours and hours in the hot sun and wait for your number to be called with is - NEVER. Come to Singapore where we pride ourselves with good street food and friendly smile. I do not work for the Tourist Board but travel extensively so I know the difference between good service and good attitude and Thailand you failed me...
Read moreIf you’re kinda masochistic and enjoy being treated poorly by others, then you should come to this place. Having been to hong kong, I’m not a stranger to bad service. But the servers at this place are not just rude, they are downright angry, especially this particular middle aged woman. She treated me like I was a criminal for daring to talk to her (and I was extremely polite), and shoved the menu angrily at me when it was our time to order, with a loud “hello” that sounded so angry I was taken aback. I thought she was like this with everyone, but I saw her treating the locals a lot better — she even had a smile on her face. Guess they already earn enough from the locals and don’t need tourists to come.
Also, if you think you can put up with disrespectful people because of the good food, don’t bother. The goose meat is honestly meh, and was mostly skin, with very little meat. If you like goose skin, then good for you, but if you prefer the meat, you’re better off skipping this place. The food is simply not delicious enough for me to willingly visit the place again and be on the receiving end of their baseless anger, not to mention the waiting time even though we went...
