A traditional Khao Tom Pla (fish with boiled rice in soup) restaurant in the heart of Yaowarat (Chinatown). My family has been eating here since my parents were young, and we’ve continued to find time to come back ever since.
This is a 300 THB bowl of Khao Tom Pla, which may sound overpriced—but it truly isn’t, considering the amount and quality of ingredients in each bowl. The large bowl is filled with a rich fish stock that has been simmered for hours and packed with a variety of seafood, giving the soup a deep, delicious flavor of the sea. Then comes a mountain of fresh oysters and fish, straight from the ocean. Finally, there are the specialized pork cubes—an increasingly rare delicacy, as the traditional method of curing and cooking them is becoming a lost art.
When everything comes together, the Khao Tom Pla delivers the very essence of the ocean. The tender fish, fresh oysters, and flavorful broth create a taste that’s hard to put into words. You really have to try it for yourself. Support this family-run business, which still uses coal to cook their food—how...
Read moreThis is my second time back here as the last meal here was really good. Love the clear soup and fresh fish. But, unfortunately, the experience did not replicate itself. Had ordered a bowl of sea bass soup with a side of rice. The order came with big chunks of fish slices and a handful of Chinese parsley. The first fish slice was OK but, from Tue second slice onwards, all fish slices with skin attached was hard like rubber. I chewed till my jaws were sore but the chewing could not break down the hard elasticity of the skin. Had informed the stall owner and all she could say was it was a really big fish and there was nothing she could do about it. At Siang Ki, the cheapest bowl of fish soup was 300THB…which was higher than the average. When no effort was shown as service recovery, I was disappointed and decided that this was my last visit. Am sure there are equal or better fish soup in Chinatown if I start looking. And I am...
Read moreThey were just opening the stall when I went there on 12/12/18 around 5pm. The lady doing the cooking was very friendly & speaks good English so ordering was very easy. The elderly man who's the owner was extremely warm & friendly as well, he speaks good Mandarin & Teochew so communication with him wasn't an issue too. Fish soup was very tasty & the white promfret they served (฿300 for small, ฿400 for large) was very fresh. Advisable to go for large since portion is not alot for both & if you love promfret as much as I do. The stall itself wasnt difficult to find using GPS from Jek Pui Curry (4 mins away). Highly recommended & I will definitely make this stall one of my regular MUST VISIT whenever I'm...
