We walked up at 8pm thinking if there is a table, great, if not we will go somewhere else in Sathorn Soi 12. We know the chances are unlikely, so we didn't expect much anyway. The host said they had a table outside on the 2nd floor. We were thrilled because that meant it wouldn't be too loud. The music is usually too loud there.
Anyhow, we were waiting for around 5 minutes, when 2 ladies walked up and said in Thai that they had no reservations. The host said something and then led them up straight to the 2nd floor to a table. My jaw dropped.
When the host returned, I asked him in Thai about why they were ushered in instantly. His response was, "You understand and speak Thai?" As if it was my fault for understanding that the 2 ladies were given preference. I asked him why that happened again politely, and he said they were joining friends. Mind you, I was quite stern in the way I spoke but never rude.
He then spoke into his walkie-talkie, asking for us to be led up instantly. We specifically looked around for the 2 ladies and saw that they had their own table. We thanked the staff and walked right out.
This isn't the 1st time something like this has happened to me. We used to go often enough until something like this happened or a year or so ago. This was our attempt at a 2nd chance with a complete open mind, but they didn't rectify the situation. I don't need to go where I am treated differently. Whether it is because I don't look like your typical Thai person or whether it's because we didn't dress hi-so (I actually care about where the clothes come from and whether the supply chain receives fair trade but I digress).
Their host could do with a bit of training on customer service. It seems other people have also received some odd welcomes in the reviews section. It's a shame that the staff aren't great because their food is pretty decent. Anyway, there are lots of Thai fusion restaurants around Bangkok that will...
Read moreStill on our three week seafood safari of Bangkok. As soon as we saw prawn head fat noodles we had to come here. It was epic.
We also had Tom yum goong, krab pow moo, and deep fried roti (also amazing).
Everything was delicious, but I'll concentrate on the prawn head butter fettucini pasta. So rich, like a beef stroganoff, but with prawn head butter. Tomily I think it's called. This was one of the best things we've ever eaten, and if you follow us, you'll know we've eaten some amazing food all over the world. The prawn came through strongly, with a generous amount of prawn meat mixed in with the noodles. Definitely one of the highlights of this trip. Along with Porwa's gaeng hung le and Khao Soi.
The tom yum goong and krab pow moo were also very good. Quite spicy, but that's fine.
Another highlight was the deep fried roti. We think you could do it at home with a flaky paratha at less than a dollar a piece. Great texture, like a filo pastry. Delicious to dip into all your sauces.
The menu here is very high quality, and goes on forever. So much choice, with clever design and thoughfulness. All the execution was spot on.
Congratulations to chef and the team. Superb.
We are here for another week and will definitely be back. Enjoy!
And we came back here again in January 2025. We were looked after by the delightful Sally.
The absolute stand out is the prawn head butter fettucini pasta, no doubt. And we love the puff roti to soak up all the various sauces from all the dishes.
The spicy banana flower salad was also delicious.
Congratulations again to...
Read moreHave had the pleasure of eating at this fun, lively hip restaurant located in heart of Sathorn many times. Modern warm interior with a hip beautiful crowd. The food has been wonderful every time we have been here either for a business meeting, with friends or for a romantic dinner. Upscale crowd with flowing exotic Thai dishes with an array of mixology drinks and an extensive wine list. The manager, Tom is always insightful in helping his guests. The wait staff and bartenders are always on their game and the hostess always tending to everyone who arrives on the street at this very busy eatery. Live Music fills the air with a regular duo that places some funky music , really &b and hip jazzy song. Some of the staff have been working here for many years as they all say it’s a great place to work. This week they had a private event and they still managed to handle the regulars with many comfortable tables outside on this lovely de sac and on they have a second story we weren’t even aware of. From above you can look down at the long bar with extra cool Lighting and the live guitarist that’s plays music to your ears. Wonderful crab dishes, grilled pork , an array of Thai salads and eclectic Thai dishes. Always yummy.
