Food: The menu at XII Mediterranean is a culinary journey through the region, featuring classic dishes like mezze platters, fresh seafood, juicy kebabs, and a variety of salads that burst with flavor. I tried the grilled octopus, lamb kofta, and a traditional Greek salad—all were incredibly fresh, well-seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Read moreAfter several days exploring the hidden corners of Thailand and the Philippines, indulging in their intense flavors, their spiced soups, and their surprising combinations of sweet, hot, and sour, we found ourselves craving something familiar. Not because we were tired of Asian cuisine, on the contrary, but because sometimes the soul asks you to return home through your palate.
And so, almost by chance, as beautiful things often happen when traveling, we found a charming spot: a Mediterranean restaurant that seemed straight out of Barcelona, Athens, or Naples. The space was spacious, tastefully decorated, striking a balance between modern and traditional, and enveloped in a warm atmosphere, with soft music that reminded us of the Mediterranean, its ports, its terraces, its endless afternoons.
We were served by May, a charming, professional, and empathetic waitress, who advised us with a genuine smile. We tried a fresh, balanced Niçoise salad, full of color and flavor; A smooth and creamy burrata that seemed freshly brought from Italy; and a risotto that bordered on perfection. All at a fair price and with a quality that exceeded our expectations.
There, in the middle of Asia, we felt at home for a moment. Because the Mediterranean isn't just a sea; it's a way of understanding life, the table, and encounters. It's the confluence of ancient cultures—Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia—that have created one of the richest and most diverse cuisines in the world. The restaurant was called "XII," and more than a place to eat, it was a small travel experience within a trip: a gastronomic journey through our roots, full of aromas, memories, and flavors that we'd want to repeat...
Read moreI went out with friends to have a nice quiet Friday night dinner and we decided to try this new restaurant XII. Food was ok (nothing special) and quite pricey for the size of all portions. We had tapas, pizza (which is thinner than paper) and I had a main dish which was very small. However, everything went well until they decided to basically throw me out in the pouring rain to move my motorcycle (which was parked right in front of the restaurant) only because they wanted to take out the trash and put it out on the street. There was no reason for that because they could have put the garbage bags one meter over past the motorcycle. It wasn't in their way and also because the garbage truck came from the other side of the street so they could have put the garbage bags on the other side of the street. Needless to say I have never encountered such disrespectful attitude towards customers anywhere in the world I have traveled to. Who does something like this?? I came back in after moving the motorcycle and was completely wet head to toe but wasn't even offered a towel. To make things worse the manager came to explain to me (only after the fact when I already moved the motorcycle) why they needed to do that! Very shameful! The least you can do is offer a towel! Bottom line, a restaurant that spent a lot of money on decor but treats customers...
